MoCo Mom Arrested for Leaving Kids Alone at Rehoboth Beach

Anonymous
Are her kids girls or boys? I am thinking they are girls and people are more likely to report girls being left than boys. The two kids who were walking alone in MD, the older one has long blond hair and looked like a girl.

Again, you have no idea what the full story is. Maybe she was hammered drunk. Frankly, she looks a bit red in the face and glassy eyed in her mugshot, like she's been drinking. If they found her sitting at a restaurant bar 5 miles away "getting food" while her kids are alone on the beach, no, she should not get a ticket and have her kids turned over into her possession.

Or CRYING, you imbecile!!! She had just been arrested and god knows where her kids were kept during that time.

When arrested, she'd been gone for 45 minutes; and it was 7:30 p.m.

Yes--7:30, and the paper says she was gone for at least 45 minutes. It's a sad situation, but I can see why the arrest was made.

I can't even remember why we are arguing. She broke the law. The kids were not old enough to be left alone and were running amok in the neighborhood. Putting in a to go order and driving 5 miles to pick up food and come back is a 15/20 minute errand tops and she had been gone 45 minutes. How long would she have been gone if it hadn't been reported? In any case she paid $500 and was released so she is fine and was more embarrassed than anything probably. Lesson learned.

Have you never ordered food from a restaurant before? That's peak dinner time. 15 minutes driving each way leaves 30 minutes. She could have had to wait for the food or maybe they messed up the order. Again, you're just making stuff up.

That was a different poster you're now accusing of "making stuff up," not me, the first one you claimed was. Is this woman your friend or something? How can you claim anyone is making up how long she was gone, you don't even know where she was or how long it would take to get there or what she was doing there. Yet you "made up" an arbitrary 15 minute drive time. Maybe it took 7!!

She thinks everyone who doesn't think this woman is a poor innocent victim is making stuff up. Frankly, she should be glad this is how it ended up. With her kids running out in front of cars that officer could just as easily have entered the restaurant and found her to tell her her child was hit by a car and in critical condition at the hospital and how terrible she would feel. Simply getting a $500 bail and a mugshot is preferable to what could have happened to an 8 and 9 year old running around a neighborhood at evening unsupervised.

So it ALWAYS takes 15 minutes exactly to go 5 miles, because you say so? I can get 5 miles away in 5 minutes if I hit green lights. You're whackadoodle.

However, an arrest was not necessary. I'm sure that traumatized the kids far more than the dogs running into the street while mom was out getting food. A warning should have been enough and they could have had CPS follow up the rest of the week.

As a teacher in MCPS, I'm worried about the potential social impact as the kids as well. I hope their school is on the lookout for ostracism and bullying because their mom's mugshot is on the Internet.

You don't leave your 11 yo home alone ever?

I, too, am a teacher in the county, and my daughter has been left alone for short periods of time. She's now 12, and I can't imagine the impact it would have if we hovered over her at this age. No wonder they can't handle themselves in college, always counting on Mom and Dad to help them sort through THEIR issues.

I guess you missed where PP said her child has ADHD and poor impulse control. Not every child is the same.
