I call BS. If those of us who think there is a pattern of violence or unruly behavior are wrong, you should put your money where your mouth is and go to the zoo next year on Easter Monday with your children in the afternoon/early evening. Spend a little time around the entrance and take some pictures by the zoo sign. Then you can tell us all about how we were wrong! Wouldn't that be the best argument against all those people who take "glee" in these events? (Not buying the crowd thing. I'm sure your children have been in crowds before if you judge it's worthwhile.) |
This is the sort of stupid-a@# incendiary comment that discredits a discussion of a serious problem. |
I don't understand posters like poster 21:20. To make you argument, you embellish the truth or outright lie. There has not been annual violence at this event, but I guess if you say it and write it often enough it becomes your reality.
Also, throughout this thread and the original thread there have been overt racist posts regarding the event. However, when the poster responded in kind to remind you of violence committed by white youth, you assert that that stuff is out of bounds. So is it safe to believe that at least in DCUM world, there are no limits to what can be said and/ or imputed to the Black community. The same cannot and should not be mentioned about he white community. |
Please. Who defends school shooters? Or military base shooters? I can't even remember what their races have been. But what we should, as a society be doing about mental health treatment and serious gun control, We need to take practical steps to make the "family day" event safer. Some have suggested a ticketed event or one strictly for young kids and their families. If you only want to consider security measures, how about stop and frisk? |
Exactly. BS time is over. Let's see who among the "its just another day at the zoo" crowd takes their family and kids to the zoo next AA family day. Words are cheap, deeds are not. |
Gun violence IS down. Way down according to Pew Reserch. White boy shooters and stabbers are mentally ill? Same assessment for black boys? Suggest what you'd like for "mental health treatment." |

Life as a blowhard must be fun. Just say whatever you want and never have to worry about facts. It seems like half of you can't even read. What I said is that there haven't been shootings or stabbings every year. If you are claiming there are -- as some posters have -- you are either misinformed or lying. I only go to the zoo a couple of times a year. Why would I pick one of the busiest days of the year? Plus, I have the luxury of being able to go during the week. Why would I go on any weekend? It is amazing that simply expecting people to be accurate about an event is enough to provoke a 10 page plus thread and this kind of anger. You guys seriously need to take a valium. |
If you've followed the coverage of mass shootings, it's clear that the mental health system failed several of the assailants. I am not aware that race has anything to do with it. As I recall, the Navy Yard shooter (black) was clearly loco and yet everyone ignored the warning signs and issued him a security clearance anyway. A diagnosis of mental illness should does not mean no legal consequence for the perpetrator, but that's for the courts to sort out. I have no idea whether the gang banger toughs at the zoo event have been black, mentally ill, just bad seeds or what. All I know is that there have been problems in recent years with the event, and it's past high time to fix it. |
This is not a new incident. Regrettably this has occurred before. Why did you go? |
Unfortunately gun violence is not down at the zoo. And it seems to be on an upswing in normally safe Woodley Park. |
Yes, Valium would have been a great defense against these "four spent 9mm casings" http://m.washingtonpost.com/local/crime/police-search-for-suspects-motive-in-shooting-outside-national-zoo/2014/04/22/725a0e2a-ca23-11e3-93eb-6c0037dde2ad_story.html Jeff, what can I say, you are a disgrace. |
Another idiot that can't read and doesn't care about facts. Those cartridges were not from this shooting. Are you a habitual liar or is that something new you just started? |
Read the article, monster. |
Here, you probably will have to move your lips while you read this: On April 14, a man unloading groceries saw a youth fire shots into the air as he and friends ran through an alley off Connecticut Avenue, according to a D.C. police report. Police detained three people, including one hiding in a garbage can, but made no arrests. Officers found four spent 9mm casings near the Marriott Wardman Park on Woodley Road, three blocks southwest of the zoo. |
