What names are you submitting for the new Western High School?

Seriously? NO! Do a google search if you do not know why.

Parkland was the city, not the school, and we can't retire one very common name just because of one event that happened in a city with that name.

The truth is any one of the (non joke) names in this thread would be just fine. The problem is everyone thinking they deserve some input on the matter and the school board encouraging that. There are already 12 of them who were elected to handle making decisions. They should do their jobs and pick something.
The same could be said for most of the whole boundary process as well. Too much hemming and hawing, and avoiding just doing the things they were put in there to do.

That is how we got Justice.

So? I don't care that it's named Justice. No one does. It's fine. Your opinion that the name is "too woke" or whatever your problem is with it doesn't matter. It's just a name. As long as it isn't something offensive it's fine. They should stop spending effort on this when there are so many other issues that need to be settled much sooner - like the boundary review and the new high school boundaries, plus all the other issues the school board should be dealing with if this were a "normal" year with no boundary stuff.

It's a right-wing thing to have an issue with "Justice High School." They'd be fine with Liberty HS, or Freedom HS, or Independence HS, but Justice HS puts them on edge.

Justice HS got its name because Sandy Evans was most aligned with a group of folks who wanted to rename JEB Stuart HS after Justice Thurgood Marshall, but her School Board colleagues opposed another Marshall HS when there was already George C. Marshall HS. So "Justice" was a nod to Justice Marshall, but also allowed them to say they were honoring others whose names had been suggested and who had advocated for equal opportunity for all.

Wrong. I don't like Freedom, Independence , or Liberty particularly as a name for a high school--while I certainly appreciate them as qualities. I especially don't like Justice because I looked up schools with that name and they were "Juvie" schools. So, I disliked Justice for that reason. However, I am in favor of justice as it applies to law.

i recall the naming process. The community actually wanted to go with "Stuart" --I think they were fine with dropping Jeb, though. Evans was foolish to push for naming it after Thurgood Marshall when there was already a Marshall High School. Clearly, she was not thinking.

Just like Lewis to Lee. Lee is a Virginia name--they could have dropped the Robert E part.

People don't like name changes. That is why I don't want any schools named after a person--living or dead.

What I am saying is that most people really don't care. You are in the minority. They should just pick a name that isn't a Confederate traitor (even just their last name still counts), and get on with it. No need to survey the community and get input from every crackpot with an opinion. It just isn't that important.

Agree, it shouldn't be the first thing they do--and it appears that is what they plan. But, the name does count. No names for people. Reputations change.

Involuntary DEI indoctrination in FCPS is a given.
