OP here- this is a nephew. Other family members are staying with them to help provide care. The hotel alone is costing over $1000 not to mention train tickets, food, etc...NYC is never cheap

You realize the baby won't be fully vaccinated for covid until 7 months ( it's a 2 dose series and isn't effective until 2nd dose). But yes risk to a 3 week old is always riskier than risk to a 4 month old. Would never want to be the reason one of my nieces or nephew landed in the hospital.

We are extremely covid cautious and no one in our house has ever had it and we take our kids to all sorts of outdoor Christmas light things


Curious what your worry is about the covid vaccine specifically if you're willing to get others?

I get flu and covid every year but hate getting TDAP. I've had six or seven TDAP in my lifetime and hate them and have gotten a few titres and they are still high. My cousin's wife was not comfortable with accepting titers, so I just waited a few months to see the baby except for one time outside when I wore a kn95 mask. They were ok with that and so was I.

Either get the shots or stay away the first few months. Don't be a jerk.

OP here - They live in Manhattan. Not sure where they will be taking the baby but their primary mode of transport is subway and they have to do daycare after 4 months. I have done the other shots asked for, I just am on the fence about the covid shot. I'm not pushing for them to let me see the baby if I don't get it. I would just visit them later. I was only planning to drop by to bring a meal and gifts and stay for an hour. If they are out strolling around Rockefellar Center looking at Christmas lights and going to restaurants I will be a little irritated.

My dilemma was whether all this is worth it for a such a short visit.

It’s not worth it. I would stay home and say hi via FaceTime. That’s a lot of money and grief just to meet a baby.
