loop

How about rephrasing...people being able to access health care saved us all money...why should we stop making that happen for more people?

Same story for friends working for Pentagon or DoD.

I asked if and when our funding would run out and my director laughed. I just received approval for additional funding to support a critical program, off cycle.
Not true w/ DoD.

Well, Walkinshaw says until November - and says that his constituents support the shutdown, which I suspect is a lie because his district has lots of Feds and military. His office was absolutely dismissive when we called and I deeply regret voting for him.

A lot of feds support the Ds not backing down. I’m one.

Another DOD employee. My agency is 80% working capital fund, so we have enough money until the end of October. Only 20% currently furloughed. Of course, that $ can be pulled to support other things.

+1. Connolly never would have been had that attitude even if he did support the shutdown.

OK? Either you don't understand how your unit's funding works (hint, it's not infinite) or you do and you're here being kind of a d!ck to everyone else that's not getting paid.

So there is a vote at 11 am today, and potentially another at 1:30?

Then after that, the senate is leaving for the weekend?
So, assuming these two votes today do NOT end the shutdown, the earliest the government will re-open is Tuesday?

November, hoping by thanksgiving

Oh for God's sake Republicans own the HOUSE & SENATE they have the votes.
Dems need to do zero.

Republicans are at fault here period full stop this is how the government works otherwise Mike Johnston would not be leader of the House. Get it they have the dam votes.

They are not opening the Government because of the Esptein files simple

Can someone explain to me like I’m five what the NDAA appropriations vote today means for the DoD/DoW? Are they trying to pass the house bill as-is and if it passes the DoD reopens? Or are they trying to pass the senate version that would need to be reconciled if it passes? I cant find anything definitive online. Just trying to figure out if there’s a chance I’ll be able to go back to work tomorrow.

We are also mission essential DOD/Space Force. Our funding is now getting pulled to pay the troops. So we are looking at October 31st before funding runs out.

Anonymous wrote:I don’t think we’re ever “reopening.” I think DT and friends will keep the parts they hate shutdown and just bring certain functions back online as they need like in DHS, DoD or elsewhere. Everyone else not excepted will be permanently furloughed. They may eventually pay excepted employees but that’s about it.

I get where this kind of dooming comes from, but the logistics of this scenario are unworkable. While furloughed, I have health insurance (premiums due when we reopen), and I am accruing time toward retirement and leave that needs to be paid out when I quit, and the tax situation is going to be a mess. It is way cleaner to RIF me and pay severance than to deal with all that.

Also, when you say "bring certain functions back online" that means paying excepted employees. People don't work indefinitely for free.

Again, I get it, but there are enough bad things happening without inventing scenarios.

ACA Subsidy is a joke. When I was laid off at start of COVID I was ineligble due to salary of prior year and then my severance again made me ineligible. I was paying COBRA for for 18 months.

Then in 2022 visited brother who retired in 2022 and all his gold buddies, and book club ladies his wife hung out with partying all day between 55-64 all loving ACA freebies they also loved the Tax cuts from for Mr. Oranges first time in office on their stock gains and dividends. Meanwhile I got two kids in college a third about to start in a few years and I am paying full COBRA. I dont think the country was founded on retired millionaires getting cheap health insurace. There is no means test it is income based. So my Brother with a one million dollar florida home a 1.5 million condo in NY and a BMW and Lexus in driveway and a five million dollar ira/401k with a few million in stocks is getting subsidies. Is that what we are fighting for?
