The question is why these schools are so into these hypocritical stuff? |
Sounds like the values of the school don't line up with yours. Maybe you should think about switching schools? It's not like Maret hasn't had a liberal reputation for decades . . . |
The values align, that fact the one is liberal doesn’t mean that the school has to be less rigorous. |
Hard to tell. Somehow they equate inclusiveness with good education. The two things are unrelated. |
It almost feels it is offsetting something else. Inclusiveness is fantastic. But is the school really inclusive? A true inclusive society would offer the highest quality in an affordable education. Certainly not here. |
Certainly is inclusive for rich families. |
This! |
What if if you just way to go, say, UMD or Mcgill, Would it be better? |
Not really, because that’s not the first choice for most kids. |
Are there schools that offer high quality education but has less of these competitive stuff? There are so many good universities in America, the top 70 are all fantastic. There are also opportunities to go to ivies for grad/professional schools. Why making high school so miserable by aiming for top 10? |
They should just admit they are providing high quality education for the kids whose families can afford it. And really try to focus on just that. If they focus on this, it would have been better than claiming the lip service of social justice. |
Agree. They don’t really care about social justice or inclusion. |
Last year’s Maret Senior class had excellent college placement. It’s a smaller class and their student did really well. |
Maybe most of the parents went to ivies. |
| Maret generally has one of the most connected DC parent bodies (moreso than Sidwell, NCS for example--who both tend to take a chunk of kids from very normal DC people--even the kids of feds, etc). Maret has tons of legacies and VIPs and just very wealthy people. These can all be very easy kids to place into top colleges. |
