Btw … no one has mentioned they are foreshadowing hot Dr. Langdon being addicted to benzos! Say it ain’t so! |
It would fit with the realism of the show. A lot of doctors are pillpoppers/addicts. |
I thought it was more that the intern telling on him is a quack. But you may be right! |
I hope there's another explanation. |
God I hope not! He’s one of my favorites! I don’t understand how it’s related to Santos not being able to open one of the vials though? |
He checked out two for a patient and returned one “unused” — as the nurse demonstrated. What could have happened is that he used the second one himself, filled it with saline, reattached the top somehow (glue?) and then returned it. That would explain why it didn’t work on the patient and he immediately ordered more, and gave Santos an explanation that sometimes the normal amounts don’t work. If he’s an addict, he knew it was the saline one and was covering. However he rigged it must have made it hard to open. Then Santos also noticed that a homeless guy had been prescribed 20 pills that morning and only had 10 when he came back. If one were addicted to pills, taking them from a homeless alcoholic would be a great way to get a fix and not be found out. Sounds like Langdon is a slick and high functioning addict and no one will believe Santos. I watched a documentary at some point about a nurse who did this so I’m thinking it’s one of those borrowed from real life stories. But he’s so handsome and smart! |
The best episode will be the one where everything catches up with Santos, all the threats and false accusations. |
I think he is the son of the doctor who died! |
You think he had time to fill it with saline and glue the top on and get it back in the busy ER without being seen? And then lie to Santos about needing more for the patient - effectively teaching her incorrectly? I don’t know. Seems far fetched. But interesting theory. |
100%! |
I thought he was Robby's son, and the discussion here seemed totally bizarre to me. But according to the episode summary on wiki: "Jake, the son of Robby's deceased mentor, briefly visits..." But why would Jake ask Robby for money? Why would Robby ask him if he was having sex? Oh wait, other episode summaries describe Jake as Robby's son. So who knows. |
I am rewatching this episode now. Evidence that Jake is Robby's son: *when Jake tells a nurse that he was supposed to go to a concert with Robby but is taking a girl instead, the nurse replies, "so you ditched the old man?" *Jake never calls him Robby *the conversations between Robby and Jake seem very father-and -son. Robby says, "glad you stuck around." Jake replies, "not like I had a choice, did I?" Jake asks Robby, "How's your day going?" Robby says, with mild suspicion, " You never ask me about my work, what gives?" (Implies that they spend a lot of time together) Jake says his mother told him to ask if Robby is okay; Robby says in a very perfunctory way, like it's of her business, "that's very nice of her, I'm fine" (sounds like he's speaking about an ex-wife, not the wife of his deceased mentor). Robby says, "hold up," and opens his wallet; Jake says, "Please don't give me a condom," and Robby says, "I was going to give you extra cash. Wait, are you having sex?" (Surely this exchange could only happen between a parent and child?) Evidence that Jake is not Robby's son: *Jake never calls him "Dad," and no one else ever refers to Robby as his dad (they ask, "are you going to the concert with Robby?" not "with your dad?" I really think they are father and son, but it's possible they aren't. |
I mean, I honestly thought Jake was Robby's son, but IMDb lists him as Jake Malloy, so maybe not? I know--last names don't mean a lot. |
Maybe Robby is looking out for him since his father died? |
But that would mean he's not the son of Robby's mentor either-- his last name was Adamson, I think. There must be some plot point here, because-- though it's true that anyone could have any last name-- why would you give Jake a different last name from his parent if you didn't need to for plot purposes? Maybe Jake is a foster son or something like that. |
