Distraught about college son who’s happy about Trump

Anyone that's been paying any attention to politics over the past four years can see that the primary message of progressives is We Don't Like You. And people internalize that. Democrats expect young white men in particular to simply stand back and be allies to the the trans community, to BLM, to Gaza protesters, to DEI hiring and so on. And when anyone voices any kind of mild opposition to progressive priorities - like closing schools for a year and a half during Covid or "restorative justice" - Democrats will automatically ostracize and cancel them - like OP is doing with her own child. Progressives these days are like Maoist Red Guards. They will burn everything down, including their own families, over any kind of dissent from their rigid ideology. It's pathetic. And Democrats will continue to lose everywhere because they are legitimately awful people these days. As OP demonstrates with her own kid.

I wouldn’t call it pathetic, I’d call it completely fascinating. But I agree with you on all your points.

Does he understand that he knows women that have had abortions? He may not know that he knows them, but he most certainly knows them. Is he really okay with them being as good as common murderers the minute they step over certain state borders?

Does he understand that he knows women that have been raped whether he personally knows this detail or not? Is he really okay with having a rapist in power over them?

If he's never been conned himself, he certainly knows people that have been conned. Is he okay with having a con artist sit in the highest office in the country?

Keep trying.

Honestly, he may know some men that have been raped as well, although that is not as common.

But a cis man can not get pregnant

The poster is talking about getting raped.

Yes? And we are talking about women getting raped and impregnanted by their rapists. Which leads to abortion and the question of access

No, the poster was talking about the experience of not only getting raped but then have to watch a rapist be put into the oval office. That is infuriatingly insulting enough without any pregnancies involved.

I agree with you. My statement is also true

Yes overturning Roe v. Wade is another enormous issue that requires us to teach our children exactly how screwed up that is and what they need to do to fight back.

7 states have constitutional amendment preserving abortion rights. These states include:
Montana
Nevada
Arizona
Colorado
Missouri
New York
Maryland

New York and Maryland is mostly redundant but the other states are significant.

Nebraska passed a constitutional amendment to restrict abortions in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters.

One by one, states are passing laws to protect abortion and at some point a federal law will be passed.

You are a failure if you would be so concerned over a child having a different political opinion. Can you imagine how he feels about you

DP. I can 100% imagine how my Trumper child would feel about me and it's messed up. My maga kid is not getting the values that I'm trying to teach him or her. So I keep trying.

Is it possible that he sees the hypocrisy in your beliefs?

no advice, op but, I would be very disappointed. I would ask him to not discuss politics when around you and unfortunately I wouldn't want to be around him much.. Considering he has zero sympathy for women in this country and how are rights have been eroded

Oh look. A single, childless cat lady has joined the conversation.

Still trying to sort out why the childless cat ladies are concerned about access to abortions.

Maybe childless cat ladies are be concerned about abortion rights because they want to remain childless.
It's not like their bits and pieces stop working when they get a cat.

Sorry to hear and thanks for answering the questions. On the other end of the age scale, I am a boomer and 2 of my brothers who were hippies when they were in college turned into Trumpers. It is so gross. We pretty much stopped having get togethers because I cannot stand their racism. We weren't raised like that.

Your family of origin is having get togethers. They just are not inviting you. Maybe your son can go to the get togethers since you describe him as much more tolerant and intelligent.

HA! Trump loves the uneducated! And honestly, op is not missing much. If MAGA want to get together than great! But, they aren't intelligent or tolerant.

Tolerance is not a virtue. Charity, Justice, Mercy, Prudence, Honesty - These are virtues. Tolerating grave evil within society is itself a serious form of evil.

Grave evil?

Is your son honest? Kind? Respectful to others? Is he smart and intellectually curious?
Is he in good health physically and mentally?
If you answered "yes" to all, you have nothing to worry about.
If you answered "no" to any, worry about those, not his politics.

I don't agree voting for trump says something about your kindness and respect-most MAGA are not kind, tolerant, and/or respectful. I think OP has reason to feel disappointed and worried.

I doubt you know enough MAGA to have an opinion

Biden gave clemency to the oncologist who cheated patients out of their chemotherapy and gave someone HIV and the cash-for-kids judge. Nobody that Trump pardoned has done anything that heinous. I don’t think you have the moral high ground you think you do, OP.

Sweeping generalizations and stereotyping hardly contribute to "kindness and respect". Individuals all have their own views, you may disagree with them but that does not render them illegitimate.

No anyone who thinks it;s ok to have a criminal rapist in the highest office of this country is not ok and certainly not respectful. Your reply is as ignorant as you. You MAGA do sweeping generalizations all the time. Shove it.

You must not have heard the news.
ABC just paid $15 million to settle a defamation suit for calling him a rapist.
IOW he's not a rapist and he's certainly not a criminal rapist.
He might be a felon but everybody knows those fraud convictions are bullshit.

He is a bit racist.
He is embarrassing to have as our president.
But is he really that much worse than any other republican?
Worse sure, but THAT much worse?

Being a republican is fine, but your son is supporting a traitorous conman.
I listen to focus groups and it’s really disheartening to listen to people talk about politics. Our citizens don’t understand how government works and really don’t have a clue about basic facts and history.
BUT
I have to wonder what the heck is happening on college campuses. Is DEI really this bad, or is this all online and boys are internalizing what they see on social media.
Something is going on and OP’s son is reacting to it. I’m just not convinced that it’s reality and not just perception.

it's not just college campuses

She would but her husband is cowering in her safe space where she consigned him when Harris lost the election.

Typical MAGA hate....you all don't like when democrats say anything but spew garbage all over the place. Keep America "great" with your treasonous rapist.

Treason, sure but he's not a rapist. He is a sexual abuser. The difference cost ABC $15 million dollars the other day.

Yeah… not convinced. Hearing lots of “my best friend’s cousin said his neighbor was denied a raise”
Not seeing convincing proof this happening in real life.
And certainly it’s not reflected in board rooms. The typical board is still 95% white dudes.

If you think all trump voters are stupid or something then you will probably never understand why you keep losing elections.

Meh. Not a judgement. A pittance from Disney to obey in advance. ABC would have kicked Trump’s ass in court, and none of us are better for this development. Owning the libs doesn’t just end with the libs. But whatever. Imma get another Tax cut and ain’t nobody messin’ with my carried interest in the next 4 years. I just keep pulling further and further away from the MAGA slubs.
I’m sure that’s what OP’s son is upset about , and what attracts him to Trump. His prospects aren’t great. Sadly he voted to make them worse. Oh well. Off to plan our ski trip.

TJ admissions changes seem like they were pretty DEI driven.

It wasn't just money. It included an apology and mea culpas and a bunch of shit.
