I worked in white collar crime for a number of years and after COVID, saw a number of hard fought cases end with the defendant’s sentence being commuted. It’s frustrating but in many cases, these people served over a decade with good behavior and had medical issues that prison system is neither equipped to deal with nor do they have the cost to do so. It’s referred to as a compassionate release, but in my opinion the objective is to prevent the prison system from being responsible, or worse, liable, for these individuals.

So, in other words, compassionate release is for rich people.

Not sure how you got to that conclusion. Most people who go to jail for that long are stripped of all their income prospects and their assets are seized for restitution. If these people are old or infirm on top of that, their outcome is pretty bleak and they need a family member or friend who is willing to provide housing and other assistance.

DP

If you’re seriously going to argue that the multi-tiered system of justice we actually have is a “conspiracy theory” and that our criminal justice systems REALLY dispense justice fairly without regard to race, gender, socio-economic, or other subjective circumstances, you have zero right to be taken seriously on this topic (and probably any other topic, given the evidence of delusion).

I didn’t say any of that. You are delusional. I was simply explaining my experience with compassionate release, especially in the post-COVID environment. You all are taking basic statements and extrapolating something from them that does not exist. You clearly have an intent behind doing so, so maybe just expound on that clearly and without piling on simple remarks from others?

Biden commuted the sentence of the woman who was convicted of the largest theft of municipal funds in the US. She stole taxpayer money to buy show horses.

Prosecutors called Daugerdas “the most prolific, pernicious and utterly unrepentant tax cheat in United States history,” while a judge described the case as “the biggest tax fraud prosecution ever,” according to Forbes. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2014; Biden commuted his sentence.

Seriously?

Supporters of Biden and the Democrats, can you explain? What is going on here?

The only explanation is some kind of money transfer to the Biden clan.

Makes sense. They commute 1500 sentences in order to hide one bribe. The other benefit of this is that people are not talking about how bad the Hunter pardon is anymore.

That sucks. Now multiply by 1500 and you get Biden.

Probably more than one bribe. The lady who stole municipal money for show horses stole millions.

It is disappointing that the media bringing these pardons/clemency to light are largely conservative. It doesn’t help the perception of bias.

It doesn't matter who brings the failures of Trump and Biden to light. They are failures and we're all fools for allowing them to become presidents.

I think it does matter. One major issue that has come up — and it has led to the election of Trump — is that the mainstream media is not trustworthy. It’s a problem if only conservative media are reporting on what is an appalling abuse of the clemency/pardon power. It worsens the lack of trust.

Biden's awful pardons have been exposed by mainstream media. We've all seen Biden's true colors by now. It's old news. Get over it. Time to focus on our next awful POTUS that will be inaugurated next month.

As a Democrat who wants the Democratic Party to win again some day, I think this is precisely the wrong approach.

Acknowledging the mistake of nominating and electing Biden is the first step towards moving on to find a legitimate presidential nominee in 2028. Our best days are not behind us.

The FBI informant who testified that Biden took bribes just admitted in federal court that he made the whole thing up. That’s why you’re not hearing about Hunter anymore. That, and because it was all to hurt Biden’s image (and stress him, damaging his health) and win the election, which they did. People who fell for all that were used.

The bad ones were the result of sweeping criteria for a large group. It was a bad decision, they all should have been vetted, but don’t pretend this means he endorses them.

What sort of crazy doublespeak is this? Insane take. Of course he endorses them.

He agreed to something without checking. The new ACLU is at fault but the buck stops with the only person who had the power to do this. So, yeah unfortunately he did endorse them.

Instead of defending the indefensible you all should be raising holy hell against the people that pushed this and lied, by omission at the very least, to the President about who these individuals were. But that person, whomever it is, will probably fail upwards instead of being put out to pasture.
