Political Discussion
Please join me, then, in disavowing all of Israeli policy and actions relative to the Palestinian people over the past 76 years. In turn, I will join you in disavowing all instances of terrorism committed against Israel during that time period. And then together we can demand a 2-state solution with sufficient international involvement to ensure that both Israel and a new Palestinian state can exist in peace, with the citizens of both states able to live securely. |
| As I understand it, post-Ottoman control had plenty to do with secret British and French agreements regarding colonial control of the region. Acknowledging many other forces in the world in the last century+, it is a fact that European notions of running things, drawing borders, and hanging on to their 18th and 19th century power have resulted in a f of a lot of bloodshed for a lot of non-Europeans. |

Not to mention that the U.N. did not officially toll the creation of a new State of Israel, Israel declared itself an independent state ahead of any established timeline.
181 is not only irrelevant and should be null and void by virtue of Israel’s refusal to adhere to subsequent resolutions, but it should also be moot as a matter of international law because the timeline wasn’t followed anyway. |
DP. I will gladly disavow many/most of Israel’s actions, provided that you disavow not only terrorism but also the Palestinian rejection of Resolution 181. And I, along with the vast majority of Israel’s “supporters” in the US, will certainly join you in demanding a 2-state solution. The problem is that neither the Israeli government nor the majority of Palestinians will agree (per the polls). |
Yes, though I recognize that the manner in which 181 was negotiated without their involvement led to most of the hostile resentment that arose following Israel’s declaration, I unequivocally disavow the Palestinian rejection of the inevitable. |
Not the way international law works. But you already knew that. |

Proud American. Proud Jew. Proud Zionist.

| It's a fraught time because clearly Israel is inflicting a form of collective punishment, whether you call it a genocide or not, on Palestinians, yet Jews demand that distinctions be drawn between Judaism and Israel. It can feel like a bit of a rope-a-dope, or maybe there's a desire on the part of some who are absolutely appalled by all the senseless killing done by Israel over the past year to remind Jews what collective punishment (or discrimination) feels like. |
Bully for you. Unfortunately Israel is putting a target on the back of all Americans, including all American Jews, for retaliatory acts here by people in the Middle East whose families have been slaughtered by Israel. Your fellow Jews' land grabs and constant brutality is putting lots of others at unnecessary risk. |
Most of the international involvement wants Israel destroyed. UN was working with Hamas in Gaza, some even watching over the hostages. |
| Back to the original question: I will vote for Harris because she maintains support for Israel, and Trump is a wannabe fascist. Fascism never works out for Jews. That being said, I do not think the Democratic coalition will hold and would vote Republican if the party manages to rid itself of Trumpism. Which is a big if. |
You should have been listening to her convention speech. She said she would always give Israel all the weapons she needs. |
DP here. I'll "join you." Won't do anything. |
| You're right. The liberal base has turned anti-Israel. I remember the days when support for Israel was a progressive cause. Now hating Israel is a progressive cause. |
That was before Netanyahu killed 40,000 individuals. Most American Jews ARE democrats and have very complicated nuanced feelings about what’s going on. Reminder than even 50% of Israeli Jews hate Netanyahu. There isn’t a clear end game here and it’s very fair to ask how long this is going to last. I don’t think it’s correct to align Americans Jews with Netanyahu’s war when even if his own people don’t support him. Lots to untangle and it’s not black & white. |
