On the other hand, I have not seen such a courageous and open-minded mom to run for BOE. God bless her. I think she will be very likely to qualify for Nov. since other candidates are splitting the votes (apple ballot backing non incumbents). It will be a very interesting primary.

Ditto. We're all in Bethany's court for the primary. Agree this will be interesting. She's got some great campaign material out there already...very professionally done. MCPS has been sinking under the current leadership and it is time for change.

This thread makes me want to find out more. It seems one or more posters have it out for her, but are also trying to mislead others. Like the thing about nazis when she really just called for civility and discourse.

If she was against fake equity which is all MCPS cares about these days, I'd vote for her.

She has apparently zero position on anything substantive. Her kids are not in MCPS or any other public school. She’s not an educational professional, a policy wonk, or even any sort of actual community activist that does tangible things off Twitter. I’ll say it again - it’s not her politics, it’s her utter lack of qualifications and status as any sort of stakeholder that disqualifies her. She’s doing this for Twitter engagement or perhaps something more nefarious, like a plan to just try to disrupt BOE proceedings so they can get nothing done.

She wrote and published a book. I personally don't agree with the book, and don't want an author of a book like that on BOE. But it's not true that she has no involvement in education. She's entitled to find out how much of the county agrees with her.

And if electoral history is any guide, 10-25% of people do. Probably the lower end in MCPS vs other counties in USA.

Even when actual Nazis run for office unopposed in Republican primaries, and the Republican Party tells Republicans to vote Democrat, the Nazi gets up to 25% of the overall vote.

I think this is a bit of a straw man. No one is saying she is not entitled to run. I assume she has met the qualifications, even if I do find the Democratic registration a bit humorous. The point is that the rest of us owe it to the 75% of sane voters to inform them of Mandel's views and her positionality with regard to public education.

It's like that Nazi bar analogy. You have to take a hard stand with the first one, or else the next thing you know you are running a Nazi bar.

And school boundaries/busing. If she can consolidate the votes on her side she may be able to survive in the Primary.

Austin tried that in 2020, and it didn't work.

I am all for Mom 4 Liberty. Lets see who they are backing.

Because there are thousands of people in the county who won’t do their research and will pick the Democrat/mom/pretty white woman/Jewish name without knowing a thing about her.

And I wouldn’t be surprised if she has money pouring in from conservatives across the country who will see her winning in blue MoCo as some sort of coup.

Jeff posted on his daily post about this thread and noted that one poster has posted multiple times without identifying themselves as a previous poster. Which isn’t necessarily required, but it does seem deceptive to post like you are a new supporter.

It also makes me wonder if the posts mandel tweeted were actually one person and if the one person is her or her campaign.

Well it was due to too many candidates on his side to split the votes, lack of strategic and unorganized effort. If the anti-businf folks could consolidate the votes he should be able to make it at least to General Elections run off.

I think OP posted multiple times in an unhinged fashion.

While she is certainly better than other ultra liberal candidates, I do prefer a more moderate and viable candidate (Gov. Hogan style) candidate to run.

Anonymous wrote:MCPS parents wake up this idiot is coming for your BOE

She has registered as a Democrat which is a lie. She is also a homeschooler who has zero experience with MCPS or any school system. A book banner.

And she wants people to friend "neo nazi's". Bethany revels in her "Judaism" what Jew befriends neo nazis??????

She is incompetent and a fool. Please beware.

This is Bethany showing how utterly incompetent she is embarrassing herself on National TV.

She has removed many of her old tweets. They were horrific.
Brags about how many people she got fired.
Admists to killing her mother? WTH? No, she didn't but her tweet was horrific. Took her mom off life support because she could "because I had the choice to do so then" HER words! Before getting confirmation from a physician that grandma was going to recover. She tweeted this.
"Homeless is crazy and fun to hang out with but they smell"
Brags about how mean she is to customer service reps.
Brags about how she always gets things for free

Wake up MCPS this POS should be nowhere around our schools or children.

You mean her book ranting that the “woke” are steaking America’s children? Come on. That makes her seem more like an absolute crank with zero interest or ability to handle the issues actually involved in running a gigantic school district. Anyone can rant about “wokeness in school” but unless they have any actual ideas about how schools work, they are just pure cranks.

Has she ever had any actual job, by the way?

Where did you get the impression that Jeff was referencing supporters? There are very few posts supporting Beth and from what I gathered from his comment, it seemed to me the repeat poster was also critical of Mandel. From his post:

But, for as much criticism I have of the original poster, many of those responding are almost as bad. A handful of posters responded repeatedly, none of them noting that they were a previous poster. This is always a danger of DCUM's anonymous posting, but I think that it distorts the discussion in this thread more than normal.

There were many repeat posts, and I suspect most were from the OP him/herself.

Without going through ten pages, it seemed like there were a lot of similarly written posts all somehow mentioning it was helpful to know this background on her, now they will check them out. Like a very not DCUM response to a far right wing person and then there happened to be multiple of them.

Just to be clear, Bethany Mandel does suck and IS an idiot and a POS but she LOVES when you say she argued to befriend neo-nazis. She wrote that as clickbait. She was saying that when you have an actual conversation with those people they'll see Jews' humanity; shutting them out only makes them hate Jews more. That is a correct point.

Whatever. Not voting for her and she's a c word.
Anonymous
Btw you know she loves attention, right? So. Congrats for helping Bethany get off today when you posted this.
