I heard they actually wanted NCS for their girls but security is difficult. |
I was a door-knocker for the campaign. It was common knowledge (among those who were in the know, like us canvassers) that the order of preference was 1 GDS 2 NCS 3 SFS |
GDS and NCS boosters are still pushing these myths. Michelle Obama stated in several interviews that they wanted a coed school for their daughters (like the one they attended in Chicago). Al Gore’s daughters attended NCS while he was a sitting VP—with Secret Service protection. If the Obamas had wanted NCS, they would have selected NCS. |
Lol—door knockers “who were in the know.” People will literally post anything on these threads! 😝 |
Why would a door-knocker be told this information. Genuinely curious? I've never worked on a campaign but I always thought of door knockers to be pretty far removed from the thick of it. People who are passionate and willing to commit their time to make a difference, and, who have the free time to give (usually students, retirees, and the under-employed). This is not a snarky question. |
Nope things changed and became more dangerous and the Close is open and public and very difficult to contain. Clinton’s and Obamas wanted NCS. NCS and STA have long been the most prestigious schools in the area. |
Agree. Sidwell can be closer off if needed especially when presidents visit the campus. It is a logistical nightmare for all on the Close and not quite safe. It can happen but really disruptive. |
“A number of great schools were considered,” Lelyveld said. “In the end, the Obamas selected the school that was the best fit for what their daughters need right now.” The selection comes after weeks of speculation about whether President-elect Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, would choose a public or private school. Michelle Obama toured Sidwell Friends and Georgetown Day School two weeks ago by herself and then again earlier this week with her daughters and her mother, who will be moving to Washington with the Obama family. It appears that only Sidwell and GDS were seriously considered. https://www.politico.com/story/2008/11/and-the-winner-is-sidwell-friends-015878 |
Al Gore’s tenure as VP ended in 2000. Obama’s presidency began in 2008. Things changed so dramatically within 8 years that there was no way the Obamas could select NCS if they really wanted to? Sure, Jan. Btw, please refer to the post/article above. The only schools the Obamas toured twice are Sidwell and GDS. They did NOT want NCS. Why would they? |
Now the Clintons wanted NCS?!? So you’re saying they couldn’t send Chelsea to NCS, at the same time Al Gore’s children were attending NCS/STA, with Secret Service protection?!? Absolute nonsense! The simple reality is that Presidents and VPs have chosen Sidwell for generations (going back to President Theodore Roosevelt's son) because it was the best school for their children. The End. |
OP, do you have any idea how full of yourself and silly you sound? |
I'm genuinely curious why? I'm URM and would ask the same question. |
The Nixons went to Sidwell. they are Quakers. |
People who actually know the Obama's know otherwise. |
Roosevelt also wanted NCS! Couldn’t make it work with security! |
