They bult one in Rockville MD and then just as it was to open they closed it so I am guessing Amazon is moving away from them. |
You have to look confused and sort of helpless, like you will be really slow. I've noticed at my Costco they almost always scan for all of the old people in self checkout, whereas I'm probably 50/50. I tried to look as slow as possible though and I also try to go to a self-checkout that has an efficient-looking employee standing next to it (if multiple stations are open at once.) |
Giant self checkout is terrible. WF is much better. Amazing the difference. |
People doing their own check out slows things down considerably compared to a person who speedily checks all day long and baggers who know what they are doing. |
Giant thinks it is saving money by not hiring people to check out the customers. However, Giant did not factor in shrinkage - they are losing tons to theft - but likely have no idea. |
It was less than 100 years ago when you had to ask them to get things for you from behind a counter OR would just call in your order and a delivery boy would bring your items to your house. Back to the future. Good job corporate giants! |
This. I refuse to use self checkout unless I have 5 items or less. At all the grocery stores I use the wait is usually not that long but I try not to shop during prime time. If everyone refused to use the self checkers that might make a difference. I don’t want to support people losing their jobs. |
100%. Boycott the self checkout and give people jobs. |
The cashiers do a much better job of bagging than I do and they are far more efficient. People also need jobs. Admit it, you’re happy because you’re buying x small condoms for your spouse and super heat ky jelly and are just avoiding the rest of us. |
This is the worst, especially when that person is nowhere to be found. |
They’re like the airlines and are treating us more and more like cattle. I miss the days when there was an awesome guy who worked in produce at my local Safeway, the store is long gone now, who would point out produce that was especially good or fresh. He liked to cook and could even suggest a recipe. The first Wegmans to open in my area had guys like that working in the meat department. I made the best stroganoff I’ve ever made because of tips from one of their guys. Those days are long gone. |
Your donation benefits the store first and foremost. They get a tax benefit based on their donation. They would never do this out of the goodness of their hearts. |
I scan 20-25 items faster than most people scan 5-10. I have been using them for over 10 years. Dont try to remove items. Just let it time out, it takes 10-15 seconds and it will move on. |
You really do, unless you’re opening your own grocery chain, which no, you aren’t. |
Costco is awkward because of the size of the carts. If they would just have scanners with each station, it would go way faster. Also another tip is to swing your cart around so the end of it is facing you and you are at the station. Especially at grocery stores and if you use the smaller tiered carts. |
