She's a hero, and I really hope this doesn't drive her and her fellow teachers out of teaching. I'm rather amazed that she survived a close range shot in the abdomen. Was there a report of what kind of gun? |
Your pessimism is nihilistic and useless. Yes, parents are now being charged. In Michigan, the parents were charged. Here, this seems a clear case to charge the parent. |
Well well well…how the turntables. The child got the gun from his mother, who was a legal gun owner. Now what? No straw man for you to attack this time! |
Ok, that still doesn’t change anything. Do you think a wounded teacher will move the needle when classrooms full of dead kids didn’t? |
Yes. |
It’s already dropped off of the national radar. What change do you think this will spur that Ulvade didn’t? |
Uvalde brought a bipartisan gun legislation that restricted gun sales, increased background checks, new criminal offenses, etc. It was not the assault weapons ban that we wanted to see but it's the first gun legislation in 3 decades. The chaos in the House does not bode well for a new assault weapons ban - but it doesn't bode ill either. |
Sometimes change happens quickly or all at once. Sometimes change happens slowly over time. Just because change didn't happen all at once doesn't mean it won't happen. We are slowly coming to rethink guns in this country. |
np here. Congress didn’t even act after a fellow congresswoman was shot in the head. I have no hope for change. |
Yes, there does seem to be a lot of that. Hopelessness isn't helpful. Change your mindset. |
I hope she does whatever feels least stressful and is most likely to bring her peace and healing. I think there is a good chance that won’t be returning to teaching. |
NP here. I appreciate your optimism, but I’m afraid you’re wrong. Agree with PP—if Sandy Hook or Parkland didn’t move the needle, this won’t either. Americans cling to their guns more than they cling to other people’s children or children’s teachers. |
Nothing passed after Uvalde would have prevented Uvalde |
Then there's more work to do. I said as much in my post. |
