She's a hero, and I really hope this doesn't drive her and her fellow teachers out of teaching. I'm rather amazed that she survived a close range shot in the abdomen. Was there a report of what kind of gun?

Uvalde brought a bipartisan gun legislation that restricted gun sales, increased background checks, new criminal offenses, etc. It was not the assault weapons ban that we wanted to see but it's the first gun legislation in 3 decades. The chaos in the House does not bode well for a new assault weapons ban - but it doesn't bode ill either.

Sometimes change happens quickly or all at once. Sometimes change happens slowly over time. Just because change didn't happen all at once doesn't mean it won't happen. We are slowly coming to rethink guns in this country.

I hope she does whatever feels least stressful and is most likely to bring her peace and healing. I think there is a good chance that won’t be returning to teaching.
