sounds like a great way to get buy-in for the new school.

Considering this school was built bc White UMC families only "buy in" to upper NW schools, I don't think your buy in is the greatest concern of DCPS.

That could not be clearer from this choice.

Which is good! It doesn't need to be all about you and what you want. If you have this little faith in your school system (the same system that has hired every teacher and admin that your child has had thus far), then I don't really know what to tell you. It's a you problem not a DCPS issue

It’s good that academic achievement is stigmatized in DCPS? Ok.

What a take away from what I said.

yeah tell me again how DCPS does not gas about producing strong students.

Just so you know how you sound: wah wah wah DCPS won't do enough to help my advantaged high achieving student. Why won't they think exclusively of them

yeah thanks again for confirming everything I believe about DCPS. Shameful. And hurts poor, gifted students of color more than it hurts my white kid.

you’ve made very clear what you think: high academic standards are not a DCPS value. All we can expect is that our kids get the minimum and we are not supposed to discuss it out loud.

What hurts gifted students of color is the white flight from every other DCPS MS and HS which I do agree is very shameful

Black, female, grad from a scandals-free graduate school, with a few years at some level of leadership in a high-performing high school, keeps the God references to private life. Thanks!

Or even just poach a candidate from Walls or Banneker. The Banneker AP looks like he would have been a good fit. He started up Ron Brown academy and is now at a high-achieving school.

Who says any of them were even interested? So you're listing Banneker #1 on the lottery app.......

Too far to commute from Palisades to Banneker. We deserve competent leadership at our local high school.

I’m going to take you seriously and assume you live in Palisades. I’ll further assume that you are generally informed about education matters in our area.

You probably don’t know who was on the interview panel. That’s appropriate.

Ask yourself, and post here if you’d like, which neighbors would you trust to be on the panel? If you are engaged, you likely have a few names in mind. Of the obvious answers, several were indeed on the panel.

LOL...So What high school was Palisades zoned for before the new HS?

Answer these questions. Which community members would you trust to evaluate potential principal candidates?

forgive me if I hoped for more … and if he just doesn’t care about the college bound, what’s the point? he’s literally not allowed to say that academic excellence is a goal, and he doesn’t have any background in that kind of environment either.

I hoped for more too. He sounds like a good guy. Maybe he’ll be good for this school, but it’s not obvious from his background. He has never been to or worked in a high-performing educational institution. I would love for MacArthur to be a high-performing educational institution. It had the opportunity, but DCPS doesn’t care. They are more concerned about a social agenda than an academic one. All their recent hires for NW principals for the same profile.

The racism just jumps out.

It’s not racism. I don’t gaf about the race of the principal. I just want someone with substantial experience in running a high school with a high-performing cohort.

The goal post keeps moving. First when everyone thought he didn’t have any high school experience people were just saying they wanted a principal with high school experience. Now they want him to have high school experience from a high performing school. When Kim Martin was hired, it was something else. There is so many goalposts that I can’t keep my head straight.

Yes it’s true it wasn’t clear what HS experience he had. Now that we know if was minimal, and not at a high achieving school, that’s still not satisfactory, especially with DCPS making exceedingly clear it does not value producing top or even average students.

LOL. The new high school is in Palisades, which means it is my kids' local high school. Telling me to send my kids across town to another school is a non-starter.

New poster here. I teach in DCPS but have very little faith in DCPS Central. I’m always shocked when they do something right because they usually make a mess of things. I hope this new HS does well but it will most likely just be more of the same

Kim Martin was not a good principal. Most students, teachers and parents were not fond of her.
JR could be so much better. Everything there is terribly disorganized which has a negative effect on all students

Listen lady. I'm your neighbor. I have the same goals and concerns. I have been active pushing for this for years. And, I cannot support any of what you're saying here. You appear to have no knowledge and display no willingness to lay some cards on the table. As such, I agree with the others dismissing you as a troll.
