If you've ordered appliances lately, what was the lead time?

We ordered our appliances in mid February. Just got word that they are now in. Subzero fridge was last to arrive.

In what way? Waiting for an appliance is nothing like the controlled access to basic goods.

In every way. I hear Costco has limits in number of basic items purchased, like tp, hs, etc.

If you have to wait for a year to buy furniture or appliances, and still don’t know for sure if you’re getting it, what does that sound like to you?

That doesn't relate to living behind the iron curtain was up in any way.

Amazing that people don't understand the difference between a nation's failed economic and social policies resulting in systemic shortages and a global pandemic affecting a single, crucial industry that is impossible to scale quickly causing a temporary bottleneck.

THIS.

Maybe the person who thinks what we are experiencing is like living in the eastern Europe during the cold war isn't hold enough to remember that time? Having to wait extra time for your product (selected from a huge variety of options) is nothing like what people experienced then. The person who thinks this is hardship needs to watch a few documentaries and read some books.

Six months for a Bosch dishwasher. I decided to get out my tool bag and just fix the darn thing. It works! Cancelled our order.

We are trying to time a washer/dryer purchase for the end of a renovation project. Currently, Costco's website says delivery is available in two weeks. It seems too good to be true! If you've ordered appliances lately, what was your lead time?

I walked into M&M Appliance on a Saturday looking for a very specific stacked W/D unit. They delivered the following Thursday.

Bought an LG Washing Machine from Best Buy in July. Ordered Monday, delivered Thursday.

I identified the model I thought I wanted reading Wirecutters and Consumer Reports before going to any stores. I saw the machine on display at Home Depot but their lead time was 3 weeks. I went home and checked other stores. Best Buy was fastest.

How do you think shortages in EE started? Overnight?

Ordered Wolf appliances a month ago and they won’t all be here until February. First one won’t be delivered until November.

The main thing I figured out is that they will tell you their ESTIMATE for delivery when you order. But that does not mean you have a reserved appliance! No one is managing the supply between the order taking and the actual delivery.

My advice is to have it delivered ASAP, if you have space to store them and a contractor to haul away your old ones. We ordered in May, for a July delivery. No problem they said! Then 2 days before delivery, they called to say "oh new delivery window is August for one and October for the other". Reno was supposed to wrap early August, so that was a NO.

Re-ordered at Home Depot and had a minor delay (days worth) but no major delay.

If I had known I would have ordered in April for delivery ASAP and had the stuff sit in my house during the reno. Future promise dates are not guaranteed.

Agree that the best approach is to find something in stock and order it for immediate delivery. Other than that, my anecdotal experience is that small local appliance stores are more likely to actually deliver in their delivery estimates for orders. I think it’s because the individual big box stores don’t have as much control over their inventory.

Ordered speed Queen washer a month ago. Received today.

Order Wolf range in May, just got update that it’s being delivered in October (though originally it was set for Sept, so I’m not sure I believe the new date). We found the fridge and dishwasher we wanted in stock (call around, you just might get lucky like I did!) in May and had it delivered immediately, and it was only plugged in yesterday. So we lived with the boxes for a few months.

Yes, I distinctly remember it starting with SubZero fridges and Wolf ranges.
