How to Washington Gas to start/stop service

Anonymous
I saved screen shots on two calls I made. First one was 2 and a half hours and second one was over five hours. If there is a place where I can publish my screen shots, I will be happy to shared.

I thought I wrote this post! Going through this now. They are awful.

2 hours and 50 minutes on hold. Did some chores , drove and did grocery shopping but eventually got through. Total of about 7 hours trying.

Has anyone tried going to their office? I’m desperate. Been trying to get through for days, sent messages on Twitter and Facebook. No luck and I’m ready to throw my phone out of the window. Like another PP their website won’t recognize my new address.

^^^^

PP finally got through after trying for four days and countless hours on hold. This is a nightmare for everyone going through it and for the employees too - Washington Gas really needs to get their act together as a public utility.

We need to write to senators. This is absolutely ridiculous and out of control. Consumers have no other options too in many areas because of a monopoly. How can they make it impossible to address billing and service issues? Then if you have an issue that they need to address, they can ruin your credit rating if you don't pay. This is absurd..

I agree that this is unacceptable, especially if they’re cutting off folks’ gas. But for the benefit of folks here, I called this morning at 8am and was able to talk to someone to switch my service after about 1 hour on hold.

Just FYI I also called at 8:00 AM and I was on hold for two hours and 45 minutes and then it took another 15-20 to get everything straightened out with the customer service rep. To her credit she was very capable and good at her job and I feel sorry for the people manning the lines. I can only imagine the kind of vitriol they’re getting each time they pick up the phone.

Someone from the Post should investigate what’s going on. I suspect they cut a lot of jobs during the pandemic (not unlike the airlines).

Senators? What do you think a senator is going to do? Write to their executive team and the utility commission.

No, but this issue needs to be examined. What about one of the local news stations? Nobody can think this level of service is acceptable. 7- 8 hours on hold to get service turned on?
This is not okay. Gas is a necessity!

Okay, I just sent a tip to WJLA. Maybe they will pick up the story! This must change!

Good for you! Did you link them to this thread? Same experience here and this was pre-all of these crazy storms. They blamed it on COVID and said lots of people were out sick, or no longer working for them, or something dumb like that. I noted that Dominion Electric was having no issues! I think I was eventually able to use the website, but to not be able to start service on the website is just...I mean, no words. A monopoly utility company should not be like this and they need some bad press.

Yes, I sent a link to this thread so make sure to describe all the problems you have encountered!

Here is a link to a Popville story about Washington Gas

Poor customer service and long wait times have been a thing since like 2016. Just read the Yelp and google reviews. If you move and cannot shut off gas to your house because of completely inept WG customer service, how can that be legal? WG could just play dumb for forever and keep charging you an infinite amount of time after. Some of the horror stories in Yelp and google are mind-blowing.
