Fencing academy recommendations?

Thank you!
Penta is good for epee. My child wants to try foil first, so we will check out FSA.

Yep- PENTA doesn’t have many foil fencers if any. I’m blanking on the name of the newer club in Herndon but it’s a strong foil club. It was founded by a mom whose son fenced at both PENTA and then FSA.

Why?

Cuban coaches that never made it professionally

Isn’t that the case with all the nearby fencing centers? Why will be coach who can join an esteemed university, join a local center to teach young kids?

DP. So posts are bashing Fencing Academy but not really being specific about what the problems are. We have a trial there on Monday and also plan to look into Penta. Hopefully whatever the issues are will be glaringly obvious

They must be doing something right since one of their female epee fencers is highly ranked internationally.

If you're targeting competitive fencing, check out the official fencers ranking which will help you decide:

Mostly Chinese and Koreans

How much time commitment is needed for competitive fencing? Why is it that Chinese and Korean are dominating the rankings?
We are south Asians but my son is interested in competitive fencing. Does he stand a chance, as I see mostly Chinese names (from USA) in the fencers ranking list.

Looking for any edge to get into top colleges. Fencing checks a box

How good and highly ranked fencer you have to be to get into a top college? Do you have to be a national fencer to get in a Harvard or Yale?

You/your child should aim to be top 30 in the Junior Olympics or July Challenge this summer. Some of the top 30 are already in college which is why you don't need to be top 20 for example. Ideally you have been placing top 10 at recent national tournaments.
To be a fencing recruit you need excellent grades to get into a top rated school - this is not football where you get a GPA pass.
Recruiting starts right after Junior Olympics (and many people have built relationships long before this).

Fencing is much easier to get a scholarship than other sports but you need good grades
