Best sleeper sofas for picky in-laws 😬

We got a PB one w no springs and memory foam mattress. It’s actually comfortable. And, like usual, PB messed up something so it was very inexpensive (and actually is great quality in retrospect). Ymmv.

We have the hemnes daybed from IKEA. It’s a daybed with a trundle that pulls out and up into a full size bed. We add a good mattress topper that makes it comfortable. I actually slept on this setup at my in laws and liked it, so I got one for our guest room. The upside is that it’s high like a bed, and feels like a bed. The downside is that it’s a twin daybed when it’s folded in, so not super couch like, but we got some nice couch cushion sized throw pillows and it works for us.

Really? Even just for short visits?

Really, yes. Even for one night.

Sure one night if bad sleep it’s horrible, but if all you have is a sofa bed, I’m sleeping at a hotel.

Just get a daybed. I'm a picky sleeper and there is no possible airbed or pull-out that is comfortable enough for me. A cheap daybed and mattress will probably be the same price as a pull-out.

Let the inlaws use your room, and you take the sofa.

I think you should give up the primary bedroom for your MIL with you and your spouse sleeping on the much less desirable sofa bed. That's what we do. I would never put my MIL or my parents on a bed that was less comfortable than ours.

+1 Same.

Wayfair and Amazon have sleeper chairs, which are pretty good. For an extra boost, I lay a gel pad over.

If all you have is a sofa bed, I would rather sleep on the sofa. Those pullouts always have a bar across the middle that’s insanely uncomfortable. Sleeper sofas are the most idiotic purchase. It adds no value.

Yes the bars are torture devices, no way to make them comfortable. I agree either daybed or one of the high-end raised air mattresses that is almost bed height.

Mine doesn't have the bar. It has what seems to be a trampoline the mattress rests on. I've had it 25 years, though, so I doubt you could get it.

My usual method with a sleeper sofa is to put the mattress on the floor.
