Second baby necessities - double stroller?

Anonymous
My kids are 27 months apart, and a buggy board on our old stroller was all we needed. At first we had #2 in a carrier while using the stroller with #1. We also got #1 more used to walking places a little more efficiently. (It helped when the goal was a fun place like the playground.) The year they were 3 and 1, we lived in an urban setting with no car and walked everywhere, and the buggy board was great.

My kids are similar ages. We never/rarely used the double as a true double. We had a Joovy caboose and rarely my older kid would sit. He mostly stood, so a boogie board would have had the same functionality

I have three kids and do a lot of walking with them, so I have tried lots of different options. So much is personal preference, so I would try out some different strollers if you can.

First we tried the City Select (front/back, can be single/double and with boogie board. I liked the idea that the city select could concert based on if I had one or three kids with me and I could arrange the kids to face each other or whatever way I wanted. But it was a huge pain to navigate on any sort of incline and it was also really difficult to get in and out of the car when both seats were attached. It was easier to get in doors and had a huge basket, so it was great if I was going shopping, but that was rare.

We used a single with a boogie board and that went well, my oldest loved to stand up, but he also loved to jump on and off and try to hang from the handles and stick his feet out etc, so it was not great if we were trying to get anywhere.

A single with the baby in the carrier was great too, but as the baby got bigger it was heavy and a lot to deal with with getting stuff in/out of the stroller basket. And hot in the summer.

The winner for me was a double jogging stroller. I used it every day for my youngest two while walking the oldest to school, it was the best in our somewhat hilly neighborhood, huge basket for water bottles/diaper bag/book bag etc, and I needed to be able to strap the toddler in and go quickly when we were running late. It doesn’t fit in our trunk and would be difficult to get through doors, but we never need to do any of that.
