If you can only have one piece of cardio equipment at home....

I have an elliptical, treadmill and rower. Planning on getting a recumbent cross trainer too. Family of 4 and everyone likes different things.

It's so easy and enjoyable to walk/run outside that I'd only get a treadmill if you need to work out when small children are napping.

I love the peloton. We got rid of our elliptical shortly after we got the bike.

I’m an elliptical fan. I need the arm toning. How does the treadmill deal with that?

Running shoes.

Stair climber. If only I had the ceiling height.

Rower

The one you personally like and would use the most. I'd choose a rower, with treadmill as a close second. I wouldn't even consider a bike, I get no enjoyment out of either the real thing or a stationary one.

I am a runner and dislike running on a treadmill..

I would get a bike or a row machine.

I agree that I'd much rather walk/run outside, but hiking uphill isn't so easy in this area - and it's GREAT low impact exercise for your legs and core (provided you walk on it hands free like you would for a hill outside). An incline treadmill gets my vote.

If you are going to buy a piece of equipment, the treadmill is the most versatile and useful. I had one for 20+ years and used it regularly. It was damaged recently during a move, and for various reasons I decided not to repair or replace it. If I want to run or walk I do it outside (weather and daylight permitting - I'm a delicate flower). Otherwise, I do HIIT or other cardio using free online videos. I think that gives a better overall total body workout than any piece of equipment, including the treadmill.

I love my treadmill, but I also hate extremes of cold, heat, humidity, cicadas, etc.

Agree with others that you should get whatever you're most likely to use.

I don't have much space, but I also have a cheap rower that takes up very little of it (can be stored upright)

Whatever you will use definitely.

We started with a treadmill as both parents run. It doesn’t get tons of use simply because we’d rather run outside. Nice to have for bad weather days or when you don’t have time to run until dark.

I added a rower and that was second because I will use it but H won’t. I use it more than the treadmill.

Actually before the treadmill I already owned a bike trainer for my bike so we kind of have a bike too.
