Grosspos this is the cheapest unflavored America Mexican. Might as well eat cardboard with a dash of hot sauce. Blah |
Ok now you people got me started. When I first moved here in the in the mid 90's we all used to go to Guapos in Tenley for any type of celebration. Amazing margaritas, solid yummy food and hot waiters (yes I said it). That was kind of my SITC period. If it was your birthday that would put a big sombrero on your head and sing to you. So many good times. Have also tried the Bethesda motel location and the food is consistent. Guapos is like the underground Uncle Julios! |
Guapos is DELICIOUS! Their refried beans alone are worth driving for. |
The tamales de elote are excellent. |
Guapo's is not that great. It's totally mediocre and overpriced. Not a fan. |
Cactus is so much better |
I’ve found it just okay but agree they have good retried beans which a lot of DC area restaurants can’t do well for some reason, and also their tres leches cake is amazing. |
Their steak fajitas are amazing. The one in Shirlington is the best, IMO. Never had a bad meal there and SO FAST. Service is on fire.

Haters gonna hate but I love the Bethesda Guapos |
Anyone remember El Tamarindo? That’s really dating me! Precursor (literally) to Guapos. |
No. Cactus is literally inedible. Guapos is a decent attempt. -native Californian who has lived in Mexico multiple times |
I love how people are trying to show how classy and cultured they are by saying it's "not authentic" but really they're just showing how insufferably pretentious they are.
Not "authentic" what? Mexican? Well good news, it's a Tex-Mex restaurant which is an entirely different cuisine than Mexican. Fajitas on a sizzling platter, enchiladas smothered in cheddar cheese, and neon green margaritas are as "authentic" Tex-Mex as it gets. |
Right? Like anyone goes to Guapos for -authentic- Mexican cuisine. I go there for frozen margaritas and meat covered in melted cheese! |
They are not authentic even in the least bit but they were so good circa 2019. |
Exactly! I love Mexican, and I love Tex-Mex. They aren't the same thing, and one isn't superior to the other. |
