Logic dictates, no?

But logic goes out the window when it comes to cops on trial. The conviction rate for cops - the very few who ever get prosecuted - is very, very small. Our society is conditioned to be deferential to police authority. Even most people of color. I hope and pray that the combination of the video, the multiple witnesses, the shifting attitudes in our country - will guide this jury to do the right thing.

That said, murder requires intent. The defense is trying to paint a picture of Chauvin distracted by the crowd - all of the cops distracted by the crowd - to make this is a negligent killing - voluntary manslaughter - rather than murder. This is why I think it is entirely likely that the jury will convict on the second degree manslaughter charge but not the two murder charges. And that result will cause a lot of frustration and anger in the larger community.
This seems like a risky approach for the defense. One witness testified that Chauvin looked very relaxed, with his hands in his pocket and all of his weight entirely on Floyd. Also, that he had a look of being cold/heartless and that he didn't care when they were pleading for him to get off and/or check his pulse. In the video, you can hear one bystander saying something about Chauvin enjoying this. Also, there were about 9 people on the scenes, a few of them minors, one even 8 years old. I don't know if it's reasonable to think the 4 officers felt intimidated or afraid. It was clearly not an unruly mob or crowd.

except Floyd had two illegals drugs in his system, had Covid, had a heart condition. I want him convicted too and think he killed him. But this is why it’s not cut and dry.

That is how the defense will try to confuse the jury but cops are trained that hold will kill people on drugs, overweight, heart issues as no asthma.

So yes, they contributed to the death but cops are trained to know that and using that hold is lethal force.

I agree prosecution did not prepare witnesses well. Watching the videos of George Floyd's murder was sickening and heartbreaking. The EMT's testimony was solid.

The 911 operator was good too.

Actually the opposite. I remember Rodney King very clearly. A bunch of cops beat him on the ground and got away with it and people got real mad and there were riots. Riots and looting and violence and destruction are not good things but in this case it was a pretty good reason for a riot. But it's a whole new ball game today. Rodney King didn't die either (not excusing what happened to him).

Also if the defense were to introduce any previous negative GF interactions with the cops would that open the door for the prosecution to introduce Chauvin's past record?

HLN, CNN and MSNBC are all covering the trial live.

If you want to watch it, get a Sling TV account for a month. They have all the major cable news networks included in the basic package. I think it’s $35/mo. (my housemates pay, I pay for the Netflix/Hulu/Disney+ accounts).

They have a deal - $25 for the first month.

And did the chief of police and other officers from the department testify for the prosecution? The department is leading the charge to convict Chauvin—the blue line is broken here so even the LEO sympathizers will have a hard time acquiting. The judge may be carefully trying to avoid ruling against the defense to make sure they have no grounds for a reversal on appeal if he messes up an evidentiary call. Obviously a reversal and retrial would be bad for everyone (except Chauvin).

Yet miraculously Floyd was fine till someone pressed his knee on his neck.

It's amazing to me how many don't understand how difficult and risky it is to be a cop.
