DC Covid Testing is laughable

This. I'm not sure what you're complaining about? You got a free Covid test in your neighborhood and...what?

"Free," my ass. Someone is paying for these tests and someones are making a pile of money off of them. Who?

DC's school required him to have one last weekend because we traveled over spring break. We went to a walk-in pop up clinic that looked like a spa. Beautiful furnishings, lovely music, full staff. Packed with people who wanted to have a "free" covid test, by showing only their insurance card.

The whole testing thing is a scam that is making testing companies very rich.

Welcome to the American healthcare system!

All of my DC tests have been 24 to 48 hours. I think the testing program has been amazing. Sometimes results went to spam though

I live in a deep red Southern state and have been fully vaccinated. Before the vaccine was available I was tested 2 times and had results within 48 hours, each time. We have drive through testing, free, constantly. Everywhere. It’s plentiful and easy to get tested and vaccinated here.

+1

Same for my four tests in DC. Most recent one was last week and I got the results less than 48 hours later. One time the results also hit my spam folder.

The times have varied. Usually, they take two days. About a third took 3 days. A handful took less than 1 day. About 3 of the tests were lost completely, but nobody that I know got results longer than 4 days after the test. Moreover, the lines were generally under 10 minutes, with just one or two days of lines of an hour. I think they did a pretty amazing job overall.

You're saying that some test results were lost completely. How is that good?

Not sure what your problem is OP? I get tested all the time in DC! Thank god for free testing because I need a negative test to see my rheumatologist in the office and most of the patients are immunocompromised. The turn around time is do to the type of test (PCR) which are far more reliable than the rapid test. (Rheumatologist won’t allow rapid tests because they’re too unreliable.)

I don’t get this. It’s clear that these test time turnaround is unreliable. People’s tests are getting lost. Learn how to read. Maybe you need to see an eye doctor next

DC has run over 1.3 million FREE tests at sites all around the city. They were early adopters of drive thru testing; many friends and colleagues came to DC for testing because MD was nowhere near as good. I paid $130 for a guaranteed turnaround test last summer for my kid's camp (spit test), but it was no faster than the free (more accurate PCR) testing I got at the Bertie Backus drive thru.

The only time testing took longer than 48 hours for me was around Thanksgiving when lines were down the street. YMMV.

Would like to see the data on these tests and how long the turnaround times were.
Nothing is free FYI.
There are half a dozen people I know that had their tests lost.

So my anecdotes don't count, but the hearsay stories from your friends do; got it.

Free is free to me and to my insurance company. As I stated upthread, I also paid for testing that took just as long. PS those free DC tests, combined with strict quarantining allowed me to take my elderly demented mother out of her locked down facility three different times for holidays and her 85th birthday, and we all have made it over a year with no COVID ( and she is now safely vaccinated). We will cherish the memories of those visits FOREVER, and I will always be grateful for access to the easy and accurate testing we got from DC.

They’re not vaccinating at the speed they should and not distributing test results. Great job by the city. You’d think Trump is running the city

Weird on last Wednesday, my 16 yoa called and made an appointment for Thursday. Thursday morning at 0700 he was tested and we had the results at 1700 the same day. I am having a difficult time believing you OP.

DH and I already have our first shot of the vaccine. That too was not a difficult process. I am waiting for them to make it available to healthy 16 yoa.
