Why wouldn't I be ok with them taking online classes? That is what they *do* do most days when school is in session.

Because they already did it? I feel like kids are spending a lot of time on Zoom for school, so I might be hesitant to sign them up for Zoom outside of school hours. But it might also keep them from bothering each other.

I don’t know when we are talking about here. Is this for the summer? I personally wouldn’t sign mine up for more online classes unless they wanted it - but I didn’t understand that to be the question posed in the OP.

Making snacks and playing outside alone, yes absolutely comfortable.

Doing school alone, absolutely not. I'm a home school parent and I absolutely utilize online resources, but it takes a tremendous amount of time to explain concepts, give help where needed and augment lessons as to instill a love of learning. I do not think my children would absorb much if I plopped them down in front of a computer and walked away. Foe instance my 5th grader is learning about the judicial system right now and we are reading a short biography on Sonia Sotomayor. We were discussing how she achieved the true American dream. He started asking me a ton of questions about the Supreme Court and we ended up going onto YouTube and listening to some Supreme Court arguments and he was enthralled for an entire hour on the subject. What started out a conversation about affirmative action and the recent justices turned into a whole lesson about how a cases gets to the Supreme Court and how it's argued and how it applies to the constitution which is a lesson we did a few weeks ago. If I left my kids alone how would questions be answered and who would indulge their intellectual curiosity?

If I wanted to abandon my kids intellectual growth I'd send them to the public schools and let them handle it from behind their zoom call.
