What is the plan for differing academic levels in the fall?

They will likely take time out of every day, at least for the first quarter, to do some remedial work. They will take more time testing to determine who needs the most help, they will do more focused pull outs, they will slow down the approach, reduce curriculum to the bare minimum to meet the standards, etc. What does that mean for your advanced child? It means class time will be used for this extra attention and, at least at the elementary level, time will be taken from such subjects as science and social studies- which were already being used frequently as disposable classes. It means that children will continue to be sent to computers for their differentiation- finished with all your work? Spend 20 minutes on ST math. Pull outs for advanced children, which were already less frequent than pull outs for the most needy, will be reduced further.

Your child will be fine. But there will be little time to “push” them. Expectation will be that the child and/or parents will “push” the child.

I have been listening to the DL for months now and see no big difference between the kids. Few have IEP plans and couple are know-it-all, but they perform on very similar level in math and reading.

Are you at one of the upper NW schools? Because this is not at all my experience. Watching my DD's K class is eye opening and she's not at a T1.

Teacher here. Folks, in a mainstream classroom we teach the lesson, math for example, according to how we always present that new material. Those who pick it up quickly go farther with the practice which takes them to more complex work. Those who struggle with the concept because they are behind or just need more time to understand get more support. “Teaching to the middle” in elementary is perfectly appropriate. If your child is in middle or high school they should be placed in a more advanced or more remedial class as needed. More resource teachers to support students who are behind will be necessary next year and it’s perfectly appropriate for funds to support that.

Good lord are you a teacher? What kind of testing do you think we will take more time with? Pull-outs are already focused- that’s the whole point! We will need more of them however. Math blocks aren’t going to take over social studies and science any more than they already sometimes do. Relax it will be ok.
