Leave kitten alone?

If they don't get fresh water they get sick very quickly.

Also there are laws about how long you can leave your pet. I don't know where you live but it is probably no more than 8 hours without human contact.

For cats? Many would prefer they have human contact once every 8 hours, at a bare minimum.

OP here: Thanks. Yes the cat sitter would come twice a day and feed her and make sure she has fresh water.

The cat will be fine at home. Cats do not travel well and no place is going to let you bring them because cat allergies are really hard to get rid of. Your cat will be fine.

Yes, hire a pet sitter who comes in once a day, twice if possible, to provide the kitten with fresh food and water, clean the litter box, and some attention and play. Cats really aren’t as portable as dogs so I would not bring a cat on vacation. Let them stay in their home where they are comfortable and safe.

Definitely do not advise going on vacation and leaving the kitten alone for three days. Other people will chime in and say they do it all the time, but I think that’s really cruel.

The cat will be fine for 3 nights, but if you're worried about her, board her at the vet. She will be safe, cared for, and unable to get into trouble. We're going away for 2 weeks this summer and I plan to board the cat because it is ridiculous to spend $40 - $50 a day for a live-in cat sitter or a 2x day visiting sitter. And, frankly, I've had more than one negative experience with pet and house sitters. (One cat sitter rearranged everything in the kitchen and dining room!)

Major +1

Cats hate travel

We just booked an Airbnb for 3 nights and she said we can bring our dog but not our cat. Can we leave our cat alone with a visiting cat sitter, or should we cancel and try to find a place we can bring both pets?

Kitten would probably be more happy at home with a cat sitter. But, having a sibling would make that decision more easy for me (that's why we have two and so it's a non-issue). With only 1, 3 days is the outer limit of what I'd leave a single cat home alone. But, cats don't like a lot of change so if you can leave at home and have someone come sit with her for awhile during the day and play with her, that's probably preferable.

We started leaving our cats home alone for a few nights at a time starting around 5 or 6 months old. We always hired a neighborhood teen cat-lover to come twice a day to feed, change water, clean out litter box, and play for a bit. Cats have been fine.

Otoh, the one time we tried to take them with us was a complete disaster. Yowling in the carrier for the entire car ride. When we unloaded in the vacation home, they dove straight under the nearest bed and stayed there for the entire trip, barely venturing out to eat or pee. They ate and drank about a quarter of their normal consumption, and were clearly not comfortable. I wouldnt do that to them again unless I really, really needed to. They are much more comfortable in their own home.

Unfortunately there are still many people who don't spay/neuter out of ignorance, laziness, or some misguided idea of what's "natural". Similarly, some of the same people think it's ok to let cats roam, leave them behind when they move, etc. So we still have some feral cat colonies around.

This thread is off the deep end in two pages.

So far people have:
- protested the idea of kittens and apparently do not understand breeders
- think there are laws mandating how long cats can be left alone that that the law is 8 hours!
- think cats like to travel on vacation with owners

GOOD GRIEF!

OP, Find someone who can take kitten for this time or contact Fetch pet services, they can sleep in your home overnight for 50 bucks I think.
