Air Fryer Curious - tell me what's great about it

The best thing about an air fryer is that it takes just a few minutes to preheat to 400 and then you can just throw the food in with a little bit of oil. So much faster than waiting on the oven to preheat. And it is super easy to clean! We have the one from Costco. Gourmia brand around $50.

We use it for meatballs, toasted sandwiches, salmon, broccoli. Amazing for all of them and much better than an oven.

I love mine and use it many times each day. I use it to toast bread (too long for a toaster - like a long sour dough) or to melt cheese on bread (open faced cheese sandwiches) or to melt cheese on a toasted warm sandwich. I use it to make a hardened baguette edible in minutes. I have used it fir cheese sucks (which taste just lime a restaurant), and other recipes but generally prefer it for the quick toast and melt. With my husband home all the time, I can get his lunch ready in minutes - toasted bread, sliced leftover meat from last night and then melted cheese.

The air fryers like Cosori and Phillips uses the baskets that are coated with non-stick materials similar to frying pans. For me, that would be a drawback.

I use mine mostly for roasted veggies and for tofu.

It’s why you don’t need extra oil. But I understand your concern.

Is it better to get a dedicated air fryer or something like the Ninja Foodi that does multiple things?

Depends if/how much you use the other stuff and how much space you have. I don’t have an insta pot or pressure cooker, not a big kitchen gadget person. I do have a toaster oven and if there is a combo of toaster oven & air fryer that probably would have been a good choice for me so I don’t have both taking up counter space.

I don’t think it does anything my toaster oven doesn’t do. It was a gift.

Do these have Teflon like coating? Trying to avoid that for cookware.

It’s not on the cooking surface for the Phillips. But the bottom is nonstick. No food touches it, minus drippings.

Ours only gets pulled out on “fried night” - when we cook wings or other appetizer type foods in batches. It’s fun, but not a kitchen necessity. For our family of four it’s hard to make enough food in one batch

Mine is a PITA to clean. Parts can be dishwasher safe but they seem to have this layer of grime that won't go away despite tons of soaking and scrubbing.

Also not big enough. It worked for a little while for thi gs like frozen nuggets but I try to cook mostly from scratch so I never really use my air fryer.

I cook from scratch and find tons of uses for it. Racks help, though occasionally I need to batch things. Anything you normally bake can go in there.

No one has mentioned roasting veggies in the airfryer - so good and so quick!

My favorite is whole baby bella mushrooms - spray a little olive oil, splash either worcestershire or balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper. 15 minutes at 375

Also shaved or whole brussel sprouts, broccoli, mini peppers and red onion for fajitas, carrots, zucchini....

Salmon also turns our really well but we are a family of 3 so don't need much.
