Talk to me about Peloton alternatives

Making it simultaneously easier on effort but harder in ways more likely to get you injured. Get cages for your sneakers at least to get the most out of it.

I have a peloton and am in the cult so no helpful advice on alternatives.

What a bizarre person you are. I’ve been to many spin studios where you don’t clip in. this isn’t new. Did you spin before peloton?

PP here, yes I did. And I went for awhile without shoes and used the cages and then bought spin shoes. Was super annoyed I had to buy new shoes with look delta's to be compatible with peloton instead of using my old shoes.

I found that when I was using the cages that I was noticeably less able to pull up therefore losing some efficiency. When I went to my very first class and tried to use pedals without cages I almost fell off the bike. No way anyone should be regularly in and out of the saddle without, at least, cages

OP, I have the yosuda which I got for $300 off amazon on sale. It has cages and I added a cadence reader.

I'm looking to upgrade for a few reasons, but the Schwinn IC4 may be for you. The pedals have both options to clip in or use as cages, I believe.

You can buy now, used.

You can buy used.

I don’t like spin shoes, that’s why. They hurt my feet (have tried multiple brands and sizes)

Have you tried going to a REI and asking for help? REI bike salespeople are usually cyclists that can answer your questions.

Outdoor cyclist here - spin shoes are essential for efficient cycling, especially steep elevations. Essential for anything greater than a 10% grade. As an outdoor cyclist though I don’t get the Peloton craze. If you have a bike, get a smart trainer. It simulates actual elevation and it’s a better workout than Peloton.

I commend you: PP, for responding in such a neutral and informative manner. OP surely did not deserve it.

Another vote for Echelon - I’m really happy with the quality of the bike and the classes in the app. I got the EX3 bc it has a smaller footprint. You do need to get a tablet though, or use your phone.

I went to many spin studios before covid. The only one without clips are the ones where they can't afford them, like the Y. There is no doubt it is better to have them. On the other hand, you don't need them with the Peloton, just buy cages if you don't want to mimic a bad studio.

My Y has cages on one side and clips on the other.

I can’t see myself putting down the money required for a Peloton bike. The input here is helpful.
