We lived on 5th Ave and 9th street when I was 14-18, before my parents moved to the Flatiron District (where they still live).
All I know is that whenever I tell people where I lived during high school, they seem to think it’s cool. However, non-New Yorkers also seem to think it’s cool to meet anyone who lived in Manhattan, so I’m not sure it means anything about that area of Manhattan in particular. |
I have some F.R.I.E.N.D.S. that live there. They sometimes had Sex in the City. |
New Yorkers are not obsessed with prestige and social class the way DC Moms seem to be. |
In the world of Edith Wharton and Henry James, only parvenus lived that far uptown! |
I agree, that is a particularly suburban fixation. |
Mawahahahaha!!!! That's hysterical. Love the answers on this board from people who have NO CLUE about Manhattan. OP -- the West Village is one of the most expensive, and prettiest, neighborhoods in Manhattan. It's got quirkier smaller apartments, although there are more and more luxury buildings, there are many fewer than the UES. Do you picture yourself in a brownstone, or low-rise, lining up for brunch, dropping big bucks at teeny little shops and very hop restaurants, sipping coffee while walking on cobblestone streets, swinging but are south end of the High Line, and Wash Sqy. Park? Being around rich but hip & arty folks? If so, maybe it's for you. If you want lots of families, more space, easy access to Central Park than it's not. The real questions is san you afford it? |
How old are you? One of my best friends lived on East 10th and Fifth (70 & 80s) His family still does. |
You are too funny. Social registrer??? Also, Henry James grew up in Greenwich Village and wrote about it. Every hear of the novel Washington Square? |
