Taking cat on a road trip

I used this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FOOO9Y/ref=twister_B07G2Z1VGB?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
In the back seat I had put stuff in the leg wells to create a flat surface with the seat and was able to fit a couple of them zipped together with a curve so there was a u-shaped tube in the back. In the front seat I used one, put the seat-belt around it and also put a pillow between tube and dashboard. (I think the front seat version was less safe but had to improvise when it became clear that the oldest cat wasn't going to tolerate being with the other two.)

Wow, that looks like something a cat could claw their way out of pretty easily.

No it's very secure (except for the zippers (hence the twist ties)). I've used a bunch of them zipped together as an outdoor playpen for years with two different cats - without any escape.

I meant the netting. Anyway, I admire your ingenuity!

Thanks. The netting is the one thing on the tube I've never had any problems with. These are not the highest quality items - irregular stitching and the metal frame wires sticking out after a while are two common problems.

We used small crates with cardboard litter boxes for a three day move. When we got to the hotel, we took the crates inside and then put the cardboard litter boxes in the bathroom. The cats didn’t appear to use the litter boxes while in the car. We only drove 6 hours a day and fed the cats breakfast in the hotel room and lunch when we got to the next location. They got a few treats in the car. From time to time I played some classical music in the car, which seemed to calm them down. The trip was pretty uneventful, and they loved staying in the hotels. They are pretty chilled cats though.
