I lived in the West Village for years-- and my husband went to NYC years before I lived there, so we have a pretty good sense of what it was like between 15-30 years ago. It is NOTHING like that now. With the exception of a few surviving businesses like Three Lives and Li-Lac Chocolates, a lot of cheesy chain stores have moved in. It's so depressing. Maybe the East Village has fared better--the last time i was there was a year or so ago to have dinner at Prune. If had money and needed to leave in NYC, I'd look in Brooklyn TBH! |
