WTF!!

Did your doctor tell you to not take tums?

What about drinking baking soda?

Has your gastroenterologist put you on a PPI yet? It not, that seems like the obvious next step. You still might need tums/baking soda for flare ups.

Yes, Tums are notoriously bad for you and cause major kidney build-up

No credible doctor would tell someone not to take tums occasionally for heartburn. Facebook wackos might.

But yes, if you take them a lot, they're going to put you on a PPI.

You do NOT want to take TUMS. Please do not. I have gotten horrendous kidney stones from them.

Nexium worked wonders for me. After feeling constant discomfort for so long, it was a game-changer. It takes a couple days to fully kick in, but provided complete relief.

That’s empathetic

I had it and I fixed it this way. Being truthful and helpful is more empathetic than making stupid noises about how things will be "ok" and its not a big deal.

It is a big deal. Deal with it.

Have you looked at the list of high-FODMAP foods and seen any triggers? The primary high fodmap foods to avoid are garlic and onions. It seems easy to avoid them but it really isn't. You should try eliminating any form of garlic and onion to see if that improves your reaction to foods. You can find more information about high- and low-FODMAP foods by going to any health website on IBS.

Here are two forms of lists that suggest what foods are high- and low-FODMAP. These lists are comprehensive but it doesn't mean you have to eliminate all of these foods. What some people have reported is that they didn't have to eliminate all of the high-FODMAP foods because their bodies processed them fine. But others were definite triggers and needed to be eliminated.

What’s left?

I also had to cut out raw onions, garlic and dairy.

Those are classic high-FODMAP foods. All of them.
