It’s that the admissions requirements are set up in a way that disadvantage certain students. The knowledge they assess, the courses you’re required to have had to even apply to enter, even the admissions essay and who scores it all systematically disadvantaged Hispanic and Black students.

It’s a rigorous curriculum. What is the purpose of admitting people who can’t pass an admissions test or Geometry?

The way tracking works, who even GETS to take geometry? These are the real questions.

In LCPS, most 8th graders take Geometry. It’s not like FCPS where it’s more rare. Only remedial math students take Algebra in 8th.

I don't think "most" is 100% accurate unless you're saying 60% of the students take geometry and 40% of the students take algebra. Then maybe you can use the word most; because the numbers are a lot closer to what I've stated than what I think you're trying to imply. (MS math teacher for 20 years)

Have you ever taught in LCPS? At a high performing school? Because yes, easily 60% of my DD’s 5th grade class went into pre Algebra in 6th, possibly even more. You have to be really struggling in 5th grade math to not take this path in LCPS. I agree this is rare in other counties, but for whatever reason this is how they do it in LCPS. I actually wanted my daughter to NOT take pre-Algebra in 6th but was discouraged from doing this would put her with remedial students, which she was not.

This is inevitable leading to a lowering of the quality of AOS and AET, and LCPS overall. Already LCPS has removed Algebra as an option for 6th graders.
FCPS argued in court that TJ is not a gifted school.
