Is Madewell stuff ugly?

I’ve actually been really happy with a couple pairs of shoes I’ve gotten from Madewell (loafers and flats). Never pay full price, but I think the quality is good enough for when they are 30-40% off.

I really like some of their jeans but otherwise, it's a big dowdy some of their clothes.

I like Madewell tops and sweaters but dislike their oddball jeans and, sometimes, their color palette.

That gray-yellow mustard color needs to go away, now.

My playground contemporaries seem to favor the "rose all day" type slogan tees and what I consider an Instagram mom aesthetic, which doesn't really appeal to me. I like my Vejas, high-waisted jeans, and bold framed glasses. Where do the casual 40 year olds who aren't ready for Chicos go?

I'm the 47 year old writer - I like both. Madewell makes sturdy basics that I really like. I live in their shorts (the Emmett shorts are perfect), I have several sun hats, I'm wearing a Madewell sweatshirt right now. It's all-cotton stuff that looks a touch more stylish (I think) and I don't have to worry about ruining. I wear a lot of J Crew, too, but I find the quality to be more hit or miss, and I think a lot of the styles are a little fussier, too.

Sounds like you’re secure in your fashion sense. Why even start the post? Not being bitchy- honestly wondering.

The OP said she is 40 and found Madewell unattractive. The 47-year-old writer chimed in first to say that she liked Madewell and then later commented more.

I like that made well, Patagonia and prana use the fair trade certified label. Ever Lane is ok but fit has been off for me. I also try to thrift a lot.

I like some of their clothes but I hate their color palette. There is so much ugly mustard and muddy greens etc. Their jeans are reliably great though.

OP here—glad that everyone seems to love their jeans. I ordered a pair a while back and they haven’t arrived yet but meanwhile I’ve been getting a million emails from them and, yes, the COLORS! So much brown.
