I need to cover up 5 inch roots fast

If you were getting a 3 hr color process at a salon, you are going to be disappointed in a boxed dye job.

The pandemic won’t be over for a loooong time.

I would just go to the salon but simplify whatever multi step color process you had going on before.

OP here. I would totally do a wig but I can't find one online that will arrive in time!

I'm so glad I never painted myself into a corner with high-maintenece "needs" of multi-hour multi-hundred dollar regular salon treatments.

+1

Buy the Natural Instincts product, which is demi-permanent. It will take an hour and if you don't like it, it will wash out within a month or so.

natural instincts. mix a small amount of the developer and color, equal parts, in a small cup and test it on a chunk of hair. if you like it, then do the rest. very simple. you can also try the spray which is temporary.

And anyone who spends that much time and money on their hair is a marcissist.

I don't have to color my hair, but if and when I do, it will be a $20 box of color and one hour. I used to dye it in high school and college for fun. Going one two two shades lighter or darker is no big deal. Also? You're not a model or an actress. Do you really think anyone cares beyond do you look tasteful and groomed for a job interview? Get some perspective.

Same here! I really couldn't believe how well it works. Now, I have never tried it on 5 inches. I do use the Clairol Root Touch-up as well, on dark brown hair, can truly, nobody would guess that I use color in my hair at all.

If you go with box dye, try Schwartzkopf Keratin Color. Very effective.

For brown hair, box dye is easy and works relatively well. Over zoom, nobody will notice.

I like the Natural Instincts because it does fade out in a month or so. I've tried root sprays and powders, wasn't crazy about them, but even they would be fine over zoom.

My hair is a light brown - think ACB color, roughly speaking, but less auburn / more cool tone. I use 7 (dark blonde) or 6A (light cool brown). 6A darkens my hair overall just a bit, while 7 is slightly lighter than my natural color, so it covers the greys and blends in nicely.

I would just a box dye, Natural Instincts is temporary but for me didn't cover all of my gray & I'm only about 20-25%. If you're a stickler about coverage do a permanent color, 2 shades lighter than your hair (You're probably a level 2 or 4, so look for a level 5-6).

If you don't want to commit to color you can do root touch up but 5 inches is a lot of hair- & the root cover will cover shine too.

A lot of stylists are offering quicker service options- mine will have me in for a root touch up where she'll mix and apply my color & I leave with it on my hair & shampoo & condition after the time she tells me to. I live 10-15 from her so no big deal- maybe check salons close to you for something similar.

Also good lighting in front of you (behind the camera) helps

I used to spend $140 plus tip. Highlights, low-lights, it looked pretty nice but I will never go back. I use Clairol (can't remember which kind) but it truly is impossible to mess up. I've been using it for 4-5 months now. I leave it on for 20 minutes, sometimes longer, and only dye the roots. You can always add to the result. I bet you will be perfectly satisfied with it, though.

I didn't think I could last through the tedious instructions but I co-worker off-handedly told me, "Yeah, you just apply it down your center part, around the edges of your face, and then do a few more partings of your hair to do those parts too. So easy." Yep, she was right.

You won't be sorry.

You are allowed to have grey hair for an interview.

Style your hair, maybe a bit more than normal, but otherwise I would not worry about this at all.

Grey hair is normal.

I have colored my hair by myself for 30 years. I never went to a salon and I read the instructions on the box to do it. I am a brunette. BTW - I was a struggling immigrant and I basically was buying any haircolor that was extremely cheap. Revlon Colorstay was at times for $2 and I would stock up on it.

Here is what you need to do.

Apply vaseline all over your hairline, ears, etc. Anywhere you don't want dye to drip and discolor. I also use it on my shoulders and eyebrows and near the sideburn area.

Wear old clothes that you do not care if they get color on. Remove all bathmats and stuff from your bathroom. Cover the floor with news paper etc if you have very long hair.

Start by coloring the area that is gray. After 20 minutes spread the color on rest of the hair. Wash after the designated time. I usually let it sit for an additional 20 minutes because I have resistant grays. After washing your hair off, remove the vaseline from your face and ears etc. Then use some dandruff shampoo to rub off any color on your skin that you don't want.

Seriously, watch youtube videos. It is the easiest thing ever.
