| I grew up in Md in a county that owed its prosperity to the local navy base. We always spelled it. I had no idea what people were talking about when I first heard it pronounced as a word. |

Growing up in Southern California, we always spelled out the letters at our ROTC in my high school.
Only when I went to college on the East Coast, did i hear referred to as “Rotsy.” It varies by region. |
