Small Temporary Above Ground Pool

Oh yeah if you don’t have a fence idk about just putting it up. People are pretty serious about pool fences I think because of child deaths etc.

I think I’ll just avoid the hassle of looking into the permit and hope they just mind their business!

Fairfax County does not require a permit for fences in general. A fence around a pool does require a permit. Your swimming pool likely needs a permit as well.

Check with your insurance company. We are doing the same thing and our insurance company said we couldn’t file a claim on our homeowners or umbrella policy without a permit.

OP, can you share where you got your pool? I have been looking and so many are backordered or not available. I spoke with a pool company who said they can't get them from the manufacturers. Thanks.

Amazon had the 16’ pool a few days ago. Worth checking to see if it’s still available.

You can still buy them on ebay - but they are going quick because kids won't have pools or waterparks (or camps or anything this summer)

What does that mean? What defines that?

Easier to call and get a permit than to risk neighbor filing a complaint against you. Some people will surprise you, especially if they have too much time on their hands. The permit process shouldn't be difficult for the pool.

It means that it says on the county website that a self-contained spa not need a permit and if you don’t want to get reported to the county for not having a permit, you should call the county and ask what they consider to be a self-contained spa.

There is absolutely no benefit to anyone trying to crowd source this because we are not the ones who are going to demand you remove the pool for installing it without a permit.

^ from the FFX link above,

Swimming pools except those meeting all of the following:
150 square feet area or less
5,000 gallons capacity or less
24 inches deep or less

So you're good if less than 5k gallons.

OP here again. Thanks for the feedback. My entire yard is fenced, so I think I am good on that. I’ll give a call to inquire a bit more. The pool I have does meet the surface area and depth numbers, but not the gallons. I wasn’t sure if a permit was required only if the pool met ALL of those points, or just at least 1.

For the PP who asked - I found this one on Amazon. So many are sold out, especially the larger ones, but it seems like some of the smaller ones are still available if you spend some time searching. I found a few 10’ x 30” Intex Easyset inflatables on there, and then the 12’ x 30” Intex metal frame one that I purchased.

OP, can you let me know what they say? I am in the same boat -- have a fence, etc.

We are thinking of the pool thing - but it is pretty confusing on the site. It looks like you just need a permit for the pump?? Or a land use permit but not a permit for the pool itself.

There are some pools for a good price for sale on Craigslist - usually one or two go up every week.
