My family’s personal experience with a potential Coronavirus infection - not good

Anonymous

I'm furious too, OP. Typical symptoms + potential infection from a traveler + flu-negative patients should be tested.

1. Location?

2. Call the doctor again, to ask that SHE call the County. The County will accept if the request comes from a doctor. If she refuses, go to another doctor (calling ahead to say it's a suspected coronavirus). Call your elected representative to complain about the inadequate response to the epidemic and request he pressure the county health department to test the patient.

3. If he needs intensive care for the pneumonia, call the hospital ahead if your arrival and tell them you suspect coronavirus. The medical personnel needs to suit up to receive him, and they shouldn't let him in until they can prep a room.

4. He needs a mask. He must stay home unless he needs the ICU. Clean your home as well as you can, especially germy spots like handles and faucets. Keep elderly people away as well as people with preexisting conditions. Clean your hands and be vigilant when you go to work.

Hang in there.

He he he. You’ve clearly never worked for the county. Montgomery County, at least.

Is the US under-testing so we can pretend it isn’t here?

I think it's just because we were unprepared and don't have enough testing capacity.

FWIW, cough typically presents right away/even before symptoms in coronavirus. Day 5 would be, at least, less typical presentation. When you say with people travelling in Europe — hotspot Europe or just in general. Truthfully, risk here sounds very low.

What makes you think he doesn't have the pneumonia he was diagnosed with? Sounds like it explains his symptoms and is 1000x more likely than covid 19.

I don't understand why he is so adamant it is corona virus and not pneumonia and why the family agrees?

AND while we are at it we will pretend that it’s no big deal.

Huh? Severe cases of COVID-19 do end up with pneumonia. That’s probably his concern.

Supposedly Coronavirus can be diagnosed with a CT scan due to the distinct (glass like?) pattern in the lungs. His doctor can easily order one to rule out lung damage.

Also 2 of my friends had fungal type lung infections that took weeks to heal.

But what good is testing for Coronavirus going to do? Pneumonia is a known complication. He has that and it is being treated. I don’t know why there is such a push for testing. It won’t change anything.

Which is exactly what happens in the more severe cases of COVID-19...
