| My son will be 5 on Oct 29. Does that mean he'll be in Pre-K, and is Pre-K offered at DC public schools. Also we'll be moving in July, so what are the chances of him getting a spot? |

| Pre-k is offered at DC public schools but the spaces are alloted my lottery, meaning that there is no guarantee that he will get a spot. You are guarantee admission (at least for your zoned schools) starting at K. |

| If you haven't already entered the lottery for preK, you're pretty much out of luck for next year. The DCPS office of Early Childhood Education is, however, very helpful so you should call and talk to them and see what they advise. The cut-off birthday for DCPS is September 30 so your son would be preK age. You can still apply for some of the Charter schools but the odds are slim. |

| WOW! What would I do? I didn't want to look at private schools, but if I have to which ones should I look at in the good public school districts for one year? Thank you. |

| The application deadline for most of the private schools have past as well. There are a few "pre-schools" that have rolling admission but most of those will have some kind of waitlist. |

| some private preschools end up with spots for preK since lots of kids move schools for preK. You'd have to do some calling around. For which ones to look into, the general schools forum and the preschool forum should have some answers for you. One suggestion is Chevy Chase Montessori. They seem to be a bit less competitive and sometimes end up with extra spots. good luck! |

| You should also keep checking in with public schools that you like. Often slots open up at the last minute. They did for both our kids, a couple weeks before school started! |

| Spots opened up at Murch at the last minute, but this was five years ago, and we were high up on the waitlist. Sorry. |
