Best Preschool in the area?

Anonymous
I have yet to meet a School for Friends kid rejected from any private school to which they've applied. It's a matter of the type of parents that are at School for Friends. They tend to be more into public and charter schools and aren't as much into status (as everyone says again and again - very down to earth, no matter how much money/influence they have). Each year there are kids going to Sidwell, GDS, Maret, Lowell, etc... The parents tend to be very progressive as well, so no one really applying to the more conservative/traditional schools.

I think the School for Friends posts might all be written by the same person???

St. John's in Georgetown is probably the best combination of most progressive, nuturing, and competitive. Really great school.

As for SfF it is a wonderful school - doubtful that it is one person writing all the posts. As a parent I agree with the assessment - great families, wonderful program, and kids do get into good private schools. It is just not the priority for the families to only send their kids to the "big 3". Very diverse and laid back environment.

Franklin Montessori... Great school!

There are no feeder pre-schools for GDS, Maret, or Sidwell. You will not have a better chance of getting in simply because you choose a certain preschool. These schools balance their enrollment with children from many different schools. The pre-school plays a role only in the quality of the teacher recommendation. Admissions committees will read these very closely because it is the teachers who know your child best.

Anybody know anything about Sacred Heart or Flower Montessori in Columbia Heights or St. Anne's in the Friendship Heights area?

or comment on Palisades Preschool?

I have friends at Palisades who love it. Most of their kids have gone on to Key, but two families I know have gone on to St. Patrick's.
