Like he was the only one. About half the government in DC is doing this... cough cough HUD cough |

Yes I still like my job. I'm fortunate to be working in a hot topic area that is of interest to the administration but also is in the public interest (a unicorn topic!), so we have plenty of work and funding. My previous division is not faring as well - their budgets are slashed and new bureaucratic red tape has made their work difficult to accomplish.

| Pp’s DH is a perfect example of why people hate govt workers. |
| My friend at the EPA was crying the other day because of the telework situation. She's been effective as a teleworker for years and the new requirements are going to mean a hellish commute, but she knows that if she leaves her position won't be filled so she feels like she has to stay. |

Working at an independent agency is great.
I have higher salary, better pension, 8% thrift match, and more leave than most Federal workers. I'm equivalent of GS-15 in my mid 30s and will have a massive pension upon retirement after 30 years of service. Really enjoy my job, the compensation, the interesting work, and commitment to work life balance. I could go private sector, but I will be working 80 hours week. I'd need to make more than 2x the money to compensate me for the loss of defined benefit pension and flexible work arrangements. |
| If you are highly effective at your job it should not matter whether you have “down time” or not or what you do with it. And no, you do not need to fill the work day with busywork just because you are “on the clock.” You per your employer the work, not your time. |
Which agency? |
| I hope they get rid of telework thing. I know agencies are making it harder so that’s a good start. Complete waste of tax payers’ money |
| My DH loves his job. FBI. He is eligible to retire in two years at 55 but is already talking about extending. |
It actually saves taxpayers money on facilities, etc. And I'm much more productive on my telework days. Unless, of course, you think that your tax dollars are wasted if fed workers aren't miserable. |
What will change for her? Is it zero days telework now? |
One day of telework. Her field sites cover a pretty big region and they are saying that if she has to travel an hour south for a field site or meeting, she should then drive 2 hours north (an hour past her home) to go clock in and spend the rest of her day in the office. |
SEC? |
Seriously, if I have quiet period, I’m working to innovate and improve the quality and efficiency of our products and processes, there’s always documentation that can be done as well as investigating new avenues of scope of work. How is the guy able to work in Private , that’s how it works there too. |
Private employees do the same thing. They go to "client" lunches, do massages on the company dime, fake a meeting when their kids travel team is out of town to get a free hotel. |
