OP - I don't think you will be making a mistake either way. We were in a similar boat - I wasn't willing to take a weekend day or my one day off during the week with my child to go stand in a clinic.
We ended up getting the shot because my pediatrician had it, and I could get an appointment for the morning and it didn't interfere with anything. I took the "low hanging fruit" approach. That being said, I didn't get the shot because I fear death from the flu - I got her the shot for the same reason I get a seasonal flu shot every year - to avoid her feeling bad for several days or a couple of weeks. To hopefully be able to enjoy the holidays without someone in our family getting very sick. Yes, the complications and deaths from the flu linger in the back of my mind, but I wasn't running out to get the shot because I thought death was near. I just think vaccines are a great preventive tool. She has had all of her other shots and never had a reaction to any, and she'd had a flu shot before, so I wasn't that concerned about the vaccine either. |
