Giving you the benefit of the doubt that you were rushed and stressed. But for future reference if you can’t/don’t want to help — it takes about 1 sec to say — if you go down to the front desk, they can help you.
This was likely a suburban dweller who wrote down the apt # wrong and is now daunted walking down the hall trying to figure out if she’s on the right floor and her friend isn’t sitting by her cell to answer. |
OP, you were rude. She was passive-aggressive for calling you out to her kid in the manner she did, but you really could have been more helpful and/or polite. |
hey OP you sound like a bona fide, better than these peasants, holier than thou bi$%h. but sure blame the mom.
and PS: im a working mom with a probably more important job than yours and when i'm rushing out to work, i still act like a kind human being. go figure lol |
Don’t think you were rude. It’s not your issue. If wou just slammed the door in her face or did t hold the elevator open, different story. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to get over themselves. |
Some people just really dislike moms/kids on sight and have no problem being a touch ruder to them than anyone else. Guaranteed if this woman was at OPs office or even by herself in her building looking for a friend’s apartment, OP would’ve been kinder. |
+1. Like all the mamas here - they should try getting over themselves. She asked a question, you answered it and kept moving. You don’t have to fall all over a stranger whether she has a kid or not. Of course I’m a New Yorker - we’re not programmed to throw in sorrys and excuse mes at every turn of the step. |
How'd she get into your building, is the lobby not secured/locked? |
This was my first thought. She should have had the unit #. Sounds scammy, but she’s less likely to get questioned with a child. |
DP If I was I certainly wouldn't blame the other person! I would own up to my rudeness. Op: You were rude and now you are inventing a story where it is all about parents with children. |
I’m a really nice person, and I don’t think the OP did anything wrong! What am I missing here? Mom asked a question and op answered. Mom then escalated the issue out of her own frustration. |
+1 I would say I’m confused by the responses but, this is DCUM. So it’s clear moms think they are some sort of minority group that ppl just hate on site. Op you weren’t rude. Yeah you could’ve thrown in a, “I’m sorry, no” but you didn’t have too. The mom however, was very clearly rude. She should’ve replied, “thank you” and went on her way. Clearly, she was frustrated and expected the world to bend over backwards to help her, like many parents with young children. You didn’t and that pissed her off so she used her child as an excuse. |
+2. New Yorker here. I don’t know who my neighbors are and am not under any compunction to stop my day and try to help someone figure their sh*t out, just because they have a kid in tow. You’ve got a cell phone, call or text the person you’re trying to visit. |
+1 |
I think everyone should be more polite. However, the rudest part of this interaction was her calling you out for being impolite. |
New poster here, from NY, and I think there was nothing wrong with how OP answered. I would barely recognize any of my neighbors and definitely have no idea what any of their names are. |
