Why do people go to restaurants for special occasions?

1. No work on our part.

2. It's rare so it becomes a treat.
Food at a restaurant is more expensive than organic, high quality food I make at home.

I have lived across a variety of situations (lower class family growing up who never went out to DINKs to UMC family with kids) and can not fathom who has to ask this question. Every family or living situation I’ve been in dining out is a treat. OP is the one who needs to explain how it possibly couldn’t be.

Really, op?

my in laws live nearby and I like to go out to dinner as a special celebration because it limits the time together...if we have dinner at their place, DH lingers until 10 or 11pm, if we have dinner at ours, they linger too....honestly, 7 or 8 hours together with the in laws for my birthday isn't enjoyable for me

I think OP is looking to judge us all as a bunch of fatties who can’t conceive of celebrating without fattening food.

OP seriously Hun, why do you ask. Such a weird question.

OP sounds like a spoiled 12 year old that never helps with cooking, prepping, cleaning up, and has family that eats out so often, she can't even fathom with a treat it is.

Think the issue is that she didn’t get a prezzie!

This is one of those questions that has me starting to formulate an answer, but then I realize that the person asking is so sorely lacking in open mindedness and possibly empathy that she’ll never get it, no matter the explanation.
