Why are dc and nova women so basic?

Am really curious as to what you come up with. I’d been checking out some of the ANn Taylor fall outfits (my shoes, bags, and watch are probably even less stylish that what you cited, but I’m not looking to change those at the moment). - always happy for other ideas that are within my budget. Thanks!

+1. Pictures please.

This explains it

This is it. Honestly it's just not a priority / not something I spend much time at all thinking about or noticing. When I leave the house I want to make sure I look nice, but there's also a practical component. I'm generally not just heading out on the town to see and be seen.

And as others have mentioned, a lot of people here are in roles and professions where it's important that they're taken seriously. This goes hand in hand with conservative, classic-style pieces...not flashy or bold looks

Haha OP I live in Denver and would LOVE to know what you think about our collective style

I have to admit that even our dc fashion bloggers are awful.

This brings me back to the days when I read Capitol Hill Style religiously and the riskiest thing discussed was how big your rectangular-looking bag would be and/or pearl size.

Women here consider an Ann Taylor dress, kate spade watch and purse and Tory Burch flats with a balayage hair in loose waves the epitome of being stylish.

Like ewww? For the most educated and wellnoff part of the country why is everyone here southern sorority girl??

I don't think they consider it the epitome of being stylish. I think they consider it fine for work.

Extemely conservative area with lots of peer pressure.

You don’t remember the lace bodysuit with no explanation of how to style, or for what occasion it would be appropriate?

This. I literally don't care. To the extent I might care or used to care, that was squeezed out of me by marathon commutes in terrible weather. I would rather sleep later, arrive/depart work earlier, see my kid more, and go to the dry cleaner and salon less frequently, than spend a minute more than I have to on my appearance.

I could spin it as a late 30s woman managing older men, walking a careful line between looking professional yet non-threatening ... but the honest truth is IDGAF.

Being smart and being stylish are not mutually exclusive.

What's wrong with looking southern? Southern ladies are adored by men all over FOR A REASON.

I hear you, OP. Every time I go out in my European or South American styles people look surprised and say “you’re very elegant”.

I don't know... I consider people who say "like...ewwww" pretty basic (make that vapid), so to each their own, OP.

Did you arrive as a time-traveler from 2013? Tory Burch flats and Kate Spade handbags haven’t been really popular here in years.
