My child learned how to ride a bike immediately after attending the rei class. Didn’t fall once either. It worked for us!

Get an Isla Bike if it’s not too expensive for you. My 8 year old son has one and he loaned it to a 8 year old friend who had tried for years to learn to ride a bike but couldn’t (he even took an REI class. An Isla Bike is so light that it took his friend 15 minutes to learn on it. It worked so well that I got one for my 5 year old special needs and very uncoordinated daughter. I was amazed that I was able to teach her very quickly how to ride that bike.

The downside is that Isla bikes are very expensive for a kid’s bike. Still, the resale value is good and it was worth it to me to get my kids bikes that are very easy to ride.

OP reporting back. After the iCanBike class my little guy is a confident independent bike rider!

It was really, really amazing. They took 36 kids and after spending roughly 6.5 hours over 5 days almost every one was riding a 2 wheel bike. I honestly didn’t believe it was possible.

The bikes they used were fascinating. They had a back wheel that looked like a rolling pin that got progressively more tippy as the kids gained confidence.

Our local YMCA sponsored the session. I am hoping we can get enough sponsors to do a second session this year.

Thanks for the update, OP! Two of my kids went through iCanShine and I feel the same way you do! It was amazing! So glad to hear your little guy was successful!
