You will regret this, that thing will be shoddy and fail before graduation.

i wen to best buy and got my daughter the same $200 lenovo I purchased 4 years prior. My lenovo is 8 years old and still going strong. a bit slower with spam and spyware. but still great for checking emails and such.

daughters lenovo has been fine as well. made it through high school fine. going to get her a new computer for college though.

the parts inside a 1200 dollar computer are the same as in the 200 dollar computers.

buy the cheap one and consider it disposable after several years.

This. We got our son a $250 laptop that he broke after a year. He paid $100 toward replacing it. He is on his second year with the replacement laptop. He would have broken the $1,200 laptop just as well, but paying half of the replacement cost would have been prohibitively expensive. His laptop is not yet another gaming device. It is for checking his email and writing papers, etc. A $200 - $300 laptop serves that purpose.

Son #3 has MacBook pro from 9th grade going into jr year high school. Maybe if you invest a little more money to get more, it lasts more? and all my boys keep a hard shell on it and all three use it primarily for school and netflix. They don't play games on it.

Mac's seem to last much longer.
