THE HEIGHTS QUESTION

Recess is really unsupervised? How do they keep it from turning into Lord of the flies?

They don't. The boys self govern and teachers watch. If the incident gets too out of hand, they will step in. If a hospital visit is required...they do not notify the parents until the end of the day. We enjoyed our time there, the boys love the valley and end of year camping trips...but it was eventually too much.

What do you mean it became too much?
Why would they wait until end of day to call of your kid is hurt?
If it gets out of control they take your kid to the hospital?! How about not letting it get out of control?!
The nurse thing stinks.

We left a school and found an environment that better suited our needs. Nothing more, nothing less. The Heights is a fine institution if you know exactly what to expect. They will work with your young men and try to make them the best that they can. I enjoyed the lower school teaching the old school way with less technology and more classics and hands on learning.

The student in the injury question was not ours, but no discipline was handed out for something that should have warranted it. When approached with details of bullying, the staff did nothing. So, I have seen just how hands off the teachers are there...and it was not for us. The ice cream social should have been an indication, but we pushed on. For some people, it is a wonderful environment with rich opportunities....for others, not so much.

My son was injured at The Heights and the teachers handled it perfectly and professionally.

What ice cream social? And what grade level was the boy? This isn't the first time I've heard of thexteachers not helping when there is bullying.

At any school when a student who is not your own is disciplined, they are not allowed to discuss it with you (or anyone). We have found this to be true at multiple schools. So how can you say for sure that there were no repercussions?

Is bullying an issue at the heights?

because with the student in question it went on for years and still is currently going on.

there have been boys hurt during the clan days, and those were addressed correctly, but everyday things in the valley get overlooked mostly.

the ice cream social is a lower school thing, mainly for new incoming families and 3rd grade.
