Yeah, geez, awful. My kid got into an elite college and no one has asked us anything. We’ve just curled up into a ball here worrying about paying for it & hoping that it will be good for DD. And honestly I’m amazed at how many other kids have also gotten into a top college that suits them nicely, many to a college that is even more elite. Where do you hang out that you feel so superior? We just feel fortunate and thankful. |
| “Not sure whether it was legacy status, the million dollar bequest, or seducing the regional Admissions rep that did the trick! So I’d recommend leaving no stone unturned. Might help to move to Wyoming as well — depends on the school.” |
| My kid was accepted to Williams and Swarthmore. My favorite comment was "Oh, I never heard of those schools". Kept me humble. |
Unless you hang with a lot of boarding school families, those aren’t gonna be on people’s radar. |
Isn’t Williams the best liberal arts college in the country? |
Oh please, anybody that’s anybody has heard of these colleges. If you haven’t then you’re likely not particularly well informed on anything. |

OP, I have the same advice to you as I do to some of the other posters.
Be nice. Answer gently about working hard and studying hard for the ACT/SAT. They aren't really asking for an instruction manual. |
No, that would be Amherst. GO JEFFS! |
I think you mean Mammoths |
The sentence right above says it all about the type of person who wrote it. Res ipsa loquitor. |
Yep, if you also believe Princeton is the best university in the country. |
| Just give helpful advice. If I did ask, that means I would honestly want to know. I don't understand why some would be offended |
If spending $300K for a degree that will get you a 50K year job 6 months after graduation, if you are lucky. Then yes. |

Williams students are generally from wealthy families, so they chase long-term prestige/status careers, not money. I'm sure that's difficult for desperate strivers to wrap their head around.
Keep telling your kids to study STEM ... so in 10 years they'll be replaced by H-1Bs who will work for 1/5 their salary. |

"get recruited for a sport" That's what we tell others. Don't put your kids into music unless they really like it. |
